Shadow of the Colossus and Ico are probably my favorite games. There's just something neat about them. I enjoyed exploring Shadow's desolate areas for hours and hours.

I came bricks when I finally reached the top of the temple.

I always find it hilarious when people bank on review sites to back up their claim that a certain game is back.

You know why God of War games were so well-received? Tits. Tits and blood. That's all. Show any reviewer the shit you can do in DMC3 when the controller is put into capable hands and they'll love it.

The top of the temple was nothing but one disappointment after another.

So I finally get enough stamina to do it, and then what? It takes me five tries or so, about thirty minutes of climbing total with several fatal falls between attempts. When I finally make it, what do I get? Nothing. Poison fruit, and a whole lot of nothing. Nice scenery and all, but that's about it. So then I make my way to the temple's entrance and go down that long-ass bridge. I have my fucking thumb on the analog stick for about fifteen minutes. Half-way. Another fifteen minutes. I'm there: the crevace leading to the outside world. "YES!", I think, excited at the prospect of exiting this God-forsaken wasteland and getting to some sort of civilization in a bonus level, "Finally, something unexpected!" Then it happens: I get blasted back by a gust of wind. I'm sitting there like "Wut?". So I try again. The same thing happens. In a fit of rage, I plunge into that opening like- no, I won't even go there -and I repeat the process over and over and over until I'm sick of it, and I stare helplessly at the light I can never reach coming from beyond. My spirit crushed, I turn around and realize I have to fucking walk back. Thirty minutes and a whole new venue of invented curse words later, I'm standing back at the top of the temple. Now I realize I have to climb down. Fuck. So after another two minutes of climb-and-drop, climb-and-drop descending, I reach the ground, and think back on what a grotesque waste of time that whole misadventure had been. Then I just went to the idol, saved my game, and powered off. I don't think I've played it since.

Honestly, I love this game, and it's one of my absolute favorites, but that thing with the top of the temple just royally messed me up in the head.

Hey, I hated that bridge walk, too. It felt like some kind of cruel joke by the developers. But there's no way to describe the feeling you get when you know you've accomplished your goal of reaching the top. Fuck the actual top of the temple. Just knowing that you got up there... that's what truly matters.

YEAH, IF YOU LIKE EATING POISONOUS APPLES AND SLOWLY DYING, MAYBE. What about that deer at the end of the game, during the credits? Where the fuck was that thing when I climbed up there? And why couldn't I get to the very top, up to all those incredibly-interesting-looking (but probably also dissappointing) platforms? It was just awful. It might've been pretty cool if it were easier to do, but the effort just isn't worth it.
