You need to upgrade your Village center, I think. Read the game help files, they'll help you a lot.

If you want Axe Men you need to upgrade your warehouse until some high level. After that you need to activate "Axe men" in the Smithy (when you get it)

Yep, you have to. It will be a while to be able to produce swordsmen and axe men.
When you upgrade stuff to lv.5 they change the look a bit. My village center is now with a stone fortification around.

EDIT: Beginner protection. Yes. You can't attack beginners just like HAXXORS can't attack you. =p

Feh, for your information I now have *2* spearmen.

I tried to attack this guy with 400 somethin points, but my spear wielding warriors wouldn't arrive there for like 2 and a half hours. Screw that. =\

LMAO! Don't do that! I'm sure you have like 150 points (or less) since you just started. If you attack him, you're done for sure after the beginner protection finishes. Which means, he'll attack you.
