I dunno'.
Alone In The Dark does look good and impressive but i've heard very negative things about it now that it's out. It's gotten slated in quite few reviews, so much so that Atari have been complaining to the reviewees.
I would rent it or play it first before buying.

The Gears of War movie shouldn't be too bad, to be honest. They hired the director of the most recent Die Hard film, and he did a good job of organizing the action. There have been rumors of actors that may be hired, and they all seem to have that 'Gears' look.

Edit: At least they don't have an excuse to go all FPS on us like in Doom's movie.
