I guess this qualifies as literature, but mainly this goes here I assume because this is primarily an anime/manga site. Anyone, discuss western comics here, people!

My favorites are The Amazing Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and the Merc with the Mouth, Deadpool (Wade Wilson). Part of that is because they're both ridiculously funny. There are more reasons, but hey, I'll go into those later, maybe.

Batman's of course a great guy, but I haven't read much of his stuff, unfortunately.

I think there's a comics thread, but anyway.
Yes I love comics and if it weren't for the recent discovery(a few months ago) of obtaining comics ~~for free~~ then I would be bankrupt along time ago.

I'm looking forward to the end of DC's big storyline in Final Crisis and also wondering what the point or effects the Skrull Invasion really had.

I've also start to pick up more Indie titles and I'm surprised just how many awesome ones are out there. Welcome to Tranquility and ONE for example.

Eh. US comics are a pain in the ass. Too many interpretations of the same series. =P Which isn't a bad thing, but it's annoying when you're trying to get into comics again after falling out.

I seem to have lost my copy so sorry the cover isn't very high quality, but, this comic is pretty awesome. I love the art, and it's got some pretty mature shit: sex, gay sex, superheroes with sex problems (one guy goes to a psychiatrist because he has trouble fucking anything that moves -- hilarity ensues.) No it's not a porn comic, it has violence and a cool story too. :P

Invincible. One of THE BEST comics I've ever read. I love the art in this, too. DO NOT make the same mistake I did and read issue #0 (the one shown above) first. It summarizes everything up until issue #21 -- one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. Read Issue #1 first! :)

I won't spoil how it starts, but it's got superheroes, (believable) villains, aliens, and it gets pretty bloody later on. I can't remember if there is cursing, though. But, I highly recommend this. I usually lose interest in comics, but I got up to issue #42 and I'm currently on my way to catch up to the rest. But, yeah, read this.

The Boys is too damn sexist for my taste..lots of mainstream comic are too, but this ugh. Though Exterminators first few issues had sex and killing crazy bugs ^_^

I shall now avoid The Boys with every fiber of my being.

I don't really read comics but I do have my favorite Superheroes.

Cyclops, Superman, Ironman, Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, Batman, Spiderman...

That's all I can think of off the top of my head though I still preffer my own Superhero to any others.

Poor J'onn is gone now. It's so tragic the wway he died too. I thought that they might pull a risky move and get rid of the top 3 from DC, but I suppose I knew they wouldn't.

US comic dont really see print in my area.

Here's how it works; unless I wnat to drive to a shopping centre several hours away, I can't get anything. Instead, I have to settle for "Essential X-Men" and "Astonishing Spider-Man" which sell in a store about 10 minutes away. That may sound like a good thing. It's not.

They are re-prints of American comics; re-prints that are several years old. We STILL haven't gotten Civil War printed in them(so I'm gonna buy a tarde of it in a book shop near here) and I would be surprised if the Skrull Invasion showed up soon. So, I hate the UK for comics, and wiki storylines
~~Also, cap had better stay dead. I will be very pissed if he turns out to be alive at the end of the Skrull invasion~~

Oh we have that here too. I ave to travel to get to a comic shop or order them. Now I download, cos I was spending a small fortune each time.
Can't you get subscription or something.

Oh, the clones... that kinda scarred Spidey. Well, y'know what they say. No one stays dead in comics except for Uncle Ben.

One More Day. Gah. Brand New Day is kicking my ass. I mean, under the writing of J. Michael Straczynski, you had epic villains and themes all across stories and really punchy dialogue. Now, you have some of the lamest villains ever, and each story seems so... shallow.

Here are some terrible villains for you:
Mister Negative - right off the bat, dumbest name ever. His power? His colors become like that of a negative photographic image. I ain't joking.

Freak - Junkie who got into some stemcells and now evolves whenever he's put out of commission.

Menace - Goblin ripoff. We've already got like five green goblins and three Hobgoblins. Now we have the Grey Goblin, Menace. Real original, folks.

New Kraven - Some chick who's related to Kraven somehow and wants to kill Spider-Man, but gets his roommate instead.

Overdrive - Spider-Man's biggest fan and an car-enthusiast. His power? PIMP MY RIDE. I wish I were kidding.

Paperdoll - Flat girl who obsesses over a movie star that's dating Mary Jane. She crushes things by wrapping around them. How does Spider-Man beat her? Putting her in water. Yeah, that's right. Her one weakness - WATER. God forbid it rains.

And let's not forget Ryan Maxwell, the Man who Sued Spider-Man - Y'see, I would expect that on some website like Cracked.com where they do a feature about the bleak future of comics, they feature a villain named The Man Who Sued Spider-Man. But no. It's real. The future is now.

tl;dr New villains are dumb, let's go kill Joe Quesada.

Tehnically, Uncle Ben still appeared in the comics though >.> Bt seriously, Ben could have covered all the bases marvel wanted for "hip young spidey". They could have had him move to the east coast, and keep Peter on the West; Ben could be single, cool and(like a lot of kids/teens) not be sure of his identity, goal in life, etc. I think that would be really interesting to read... meanwhile, Petey stays married and becomes a daddy. The Greatest responsibility.

Cap has had a full and dramatic story though; having Bucky take over seems like the next way to go, in my opinion.

Don't worry. We'll probably see the symbiote brothers, or Norman show up soon...

EDIT:And Paperdoll sounds like a Konan rip-off.
And... I read a nice little theory about Menace and Jackpot.

I.... can't really remember about HoM. Odds are itll be re-released as a seperate universe, same as AoA though...
Was Wanda hinted at going nuts, btw? Anytime I saw her, she seemed fairly stable, and then... Bam. Off to looney town.

I think they're going to try and bring him back with the Skrull storyline. I can live without him in MU to be honest.
Wanda did go nuts and unleashed crazy chaos magic and she altered reality and took away all but 198 mutants powers on the planet. She be crazy powerful.
