Rap is now the farm owned by an aged and weathered farmer in Central America who yielded less and less crops every year. It was believed to be because everything had been used up and the land could no longer produce. One day he is found dead in his home--he died of old age, they say. The land wasn't bought up by outside investors since they believed the land was of no value to them. It was passed down to the farmer's children, who had moved into the city to try jobs that didn't have to do with farming. They never bothered visiting their father's farm. Little did they know that there was a small plot behind the home that could have easily given way to a very large, very useful set of crops. Alas, the plot was overlooked and eventually withered away. No one believe there would be anything of worth from the farm, so it withers away. |

Rock n' Roll is dead, unless you count third wave ska as the modern Rock n' Roll, but even so, not many third wave ska bands pull it off. Rock on the other hand is alive and making a comeback, I mean, black people are starting to listen to it. Srsly.

I personally don't believe traditional rock is dying out, but that's probably because I listen to a lot of local stuff in addition to pop rock. I do think that it is becoming less common amongst the population as a whole, but that is because there are more genres of music out now.
That doesn't mean it is dying out though. Far from.

To be honest, I haven't seen many great rock bands nowadays. Wait, actually, I haven't seen any great rock band in the past 7 or 8 years.
PS: The person who replies to my post like "Hey, what about Linkin Park! Its the best band ever!1!!" or something like that will get his/her testicles severed. I mean, comon guys, its the shittiest band ever. Its not even what I'd call rock. It is rap, rock, blues and many other genres combined into a mixture of super-suck. |

How did the "sell out," exactly? I don't like their music at all, but I don't see enough evidence to call them sell outs. A sell out in my book is Against Me! A band who starts on a small, independent label and sings about individuality, anarchy, and the like, who goes to a major, corporate label and sing songs with two verses and five choruses construed in there.

Maybe you don't listen to Against Me! as vividly as you're letting on, because a vast majority of their songs on their new album talk about their refusal to sign creative control over to their new label, but then again, they're probably just sell outs because you say so. Linkin Park, on the other hand, went from singing about emotional situations, public problems, more emotional situations, and the like, to basically just coming up with a phrase that sounds deep, and repeating four or five times a verse. Throwing in a catchy beat, and calling it a song.

I don't like today's rock. Does it mean I should go out insulting it? No. To each his own.
