Of course the music isn't going to be the same as back in the 70's-80's period. Bands who do sound like that also usually get compared to those classic rock bands and subsequently insulted for trying to copy their sound.
Until all guitars are gone, rock will live. |

There are quite a few things wrong with rap, besides the fact that the majority of "mainstream rap" out today is derogative towards women, glamorizes materialism and promotes narcissism (this applies to Mike Jones and friends).

As far as Rock N Roll, nothing will be as powerful as Classic Rock, because it was something new and different. The whole metal/screamo/post-hardcore scene these days just gives me a bad taste in my mouth, it's gross. But as Engel stated, as long as guitars are still being played, rock will live on. |

The problem I have with rap doesn't lie within the music itself. It comes from the many one-hit-wonders who don't know when to quit.
Also, the tracks on individual rapper's albums often sound crazily similar. Not to say this doesn't happen with other genre's, but when your voice alone racks up your sales, I want unique vocal pieces in each song. That's why I hate Snoop. He sounds the same in all of his tracks. Anyway, no music genre will stay popular or last forever, but if you want to hear ACDC on the radio, just listen for Airborne. I swear, their was some vocal chord transplants going on there somewhere . . . They have the same off-the-wall, upbeat style as well. :O |

try listening to 3 doors down. They get a lot of bad heat, but I find them very good. also they are (IMO) the best rock band to come out since the turn of the century.

Yeah, rap songs usually don't mention cocaine, Kei.
Also, an annoying thing about rap is how every artist has at least six or seven songs on their CD featuring three other guys. It's practically a compilation disc.

In 5-10 years, people will be asking if rap is dieing when the new thing comes out. Its the way all music has been, every type of music will lose some of the popularity it started with. But the music types will most likely live, look at blues for example. Most people would say blues is dead, but there are still successful blues artists out there, and the same will probably go with rock and then rap.

I think there's just more mixing of genres.
Rock and Roll isn't what it was then, because we're in a whole different era of technology. Rock doesn't necessarily die, it just is a step up to future generations of music. Just as swing, blues, folk and classical are all precursors to rock.
