I don't think Gohan would become suicidal because of a simple death. It'd have to hit him harder, like .. Goku returning as an abusive father who constantly tortures small woodland animals at the kitchen table during dinner, and then forces Gohan to eat the bones. That's the kind of thing that should drive somebody to suicide. Goku dies a lot, anyway.

I'm not interested in DBZ fictions, though. There isn't really much you can do with it to make it unique, since the characters used in it are ridiculous, and it's usually only one person, or a small group of people that pose any potential threat to the heroes, which makes it limited to what the plot is going to be based around.

I read a story like that once. Goku came back and was abusive. Can't think of one where he made Gohan eat the bones....But I've read some like that.

But they author's usually have Gohan blame himself for Goku's death. and some have some of the other's accidentally say some bad things. They usually do set it up to be believable.

But some DBZ fics are unique. Mostly because they add twists or are just good at making things more original.

I write DBZ fics too ya know. Most of the fics on FF.N do not suck and are unique. It's the Inuyasha ones that suck. It's always the same plot over and over and over. And over. And over. And over.

And yes the writer does count. You could have the best plot in the world but not be able to write well. And the story wouldn't be good. But you could have a simple plot, and be a good writer and the story is good. It takes both writer and plot to make a good story.

^Agreed. Original will always PWN fictions that are based off of an already existing anime/manga.... Unless they suck.

No. You wouldn't stand a chance. I wouldn't stand a chance against Chelsee at all but if me and M13D ever went up against each other She'd beat me by a few votes instead of it being me= zip, other= all. heheheh......^^

And yes I did join the fanclub. If there was one. I read only Gohan stories. Which is easy seeing how organized FF.N is. Met everyone I know because I reviewed a story they wrote about Gohan. ^^

But I doubt you read the entire CM story. I've tried to read the entire thing in one day. Had to quit cause my eyes hurt. -.- But her story really gets good....^^ love it all to bits.

Gohan just isn't the type to do that. And if DBZ went the way all these crazy fans thought it "should be", then we wouldn't have a DBZ to begin with. It would be something else entirely. It would be the butchered aborted fetus of the lovechild of Toriyama and the fans of DBZ. And if you can't remain faithful to the general idea, you don't even really have a DBZ fic anymore. It's like on that one Southpark episode where Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo was dying and they had a TV series in it with Ben Afleck supposed to be Kyle or something and Mr. Hanky was played by a talking chimp. No matter how non-serious that just sounded, that's pretty much what happens when you try to butcher an original story to meet your own selfish ideas. That, AND the 1998 American Godzilla movie......

I doubt you would....Yes Original's are better than DBZ fics. Because you actually thought up of the entire thing and had to make up the characters.

Yes Gohan isn't that type. But it would have been possible. I can very well see him commit suicide because he blames himself for Goku's death. (nods) If DBZ was teh way fans think it should be.......I'm not even gonna think about that result.

I still think M13D could beat you. But I'm to sleepy to go into that.

Ya, I have difficulty with them as well. I have the most trouble keeping my characters in character. I even have that with my OC's in my Fanfics some times. The reason being, I usually don't pound them out enough, so I don't have a solid feel of how they act. It's one reason I like Fanfiction so much. I know those characters, inside and out. Especially DBZ. I know how they'd handle a situation because I have all that background on them. But, I'm working on getting better at that. Need to, if I want to be a writer and ever get published.

Woo! I've done incredible! hehe. Twists are one of my favorite things to pull in fics. And expect to see MANY of them in the last few Sagas of AH... (Assuming I ever finish Saga 5. Right now my main focus is on NaNoWriMo.) And if you want to see something original from me I do have a few original short stories done...

I like Fanfictions since they give me established material to work with, it makes it a bit easier. Yet at the same time the world is already established so that restricts you a bit. It makes for really good writing practice and exercise though. My ablity at writing combat scenes has improved vastly since I started writing my Fanfictions. And my description is slowly improving as well.

I have yet to finish an original novel on the computer, at least. I did write one YEARS ago, like, when I was 12. 152 pages. Sci-Fi. Decent, but not that great. All with pen and paper. x_x Lost it long ago... sadly.

Anyway, if you're interested in original writing you might be interested in the insanity of NaNoWriMo if you've not already heard of it. It's the National Novel Writing Month. Takes place over the month of November. The goal is to write an ENTIRE story in 1 month, 50k+ words. Check it out. You might be interested. The rule is, you can do pre-writing, but can't start the novel until 12:01 on November first. While it makes for an insane month it's a blast.

Yeah, but that's the thing. They may be easier, but they are also, as you said, very restrictive in terms of what you can do, unless you want to completely butcher the plot.

That's why original is best. It takes lots of thinking and effort, as well as every last ounce of creativity to draw out a good original, but it's definitely more than worth it. Also, "fan" fictions like DBZ stories are now over-used and cleche. I mean, for Christ's sake, some are good, but others are just lame. Many writers of DBZ fics also have no idea how to make them act, and have Goku stroll in on the first chapter and say "YO NIGGAZ WAZZUP?!?!?!". Many DBZ fics place the characters......out of character. That's why original is best, because you can have them act any way you damn well feel like. Also, I'm tired of seeing DBZ fics.......there's too damn many.............

Ya, I hate OOC in fanfictions. And there's not too many DBZ Fanfics. There's just too many BAD DBZ Fanfics. Mine aren't the greatest, but at least they're decent. And one of the things I like about Fanfiction is the restrictiveness of the established world. It's nice to work inside those limits and still see what you can come up with.

Meh, I'm not that much of a fan of DBZ fics also.

Why? It has already the characters done, the villains etc.

They just have to copy the characters looks, attitude, moves and so on. Nothing original. Well, some fics have an exception for this point, but anyways.

Original pwn. Original characters, original stuff in principle, it's more exciting to read something that you are unfamiliar with. You cannot expect a thing what happens in the next chapter, unless you are some sort of a mind reader or you can see to the future. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img]

Final conclusion is, that there are fan fics copied out of some tv series/anime/manga. Those are not as good as the stuff that is ORIGINAL.

I dont mind the dbz ones... though as of late i havnt been as interested in them. Mainly because there were just so many and the same ideas were continually being circulated and mostly revolved around the same bad guys coming back..,

With Twitch and Manic i think your stories started with a twist into dbz as well didnt they? Or was it just Manic's... i cant remember exactly but i know at one point Kouta and such were fighting with goku and that... and it was well done becuase it didnt directly resolve around dbz but had a nice lil tie in with it before moving on.

Im trying for an original...i currently have another one which is about 2 or 3 pages back (walking with engels XD gah), was a mystery one...the one im doing now is a bit different. I do think of going back and trying to complete COV and WWE but my ideas that i had back then are kinda missing from my crainium...

One thing ive also found with the original fics is that even if they are original most characters usually are similiar to other ones about. Whether on purpose or just by chance some seem quite similar...
