I don't think the height really matters, I just think that if yours gets chosen, it wouldn't look very wide. If you want to make a wider version go for it, but I think Ace just provided those numbers as like a preferred choice, not a necessity.

On the question of dimensions, forget what I originally said.

Use whatever size you think would look good on the site. Ideally, the logo/banner should look well-integrated into the site's skin.
