Wow, I remember when I started writing here... basically, for the first week I was here, fanfiction was where I made the most of my posts... crap ones, but still...
And yeah, thats a random thought from me. I can actually count up all the fanfictions I've done here on two hands, as well as how many I actually finished... come to think of it, might actually re-write my old fics... start from scratch with new skills...

Man, with Hal “out of office,” the Fan Fiction forum virtually is doomed. JC’s got some talent I guess, as do I, but I hardly write anymore, and all the other talented writers that we once had have either taken their leave or just no longer write. MFG’s once most thriving forum is now at its demise, oh well. Maybe I’ll write something, so when it does finally die, it’ll go out with a big bang. Shit, maybe a joint project, role playing against JC made me respect him more as a writer, not saying that you all should go and check out our match, it’s nothing special. He just…I’unno—impressed me.
What these damn “moderators” need to do is bring back some stories from v3.0, maybe bringing back the stories that were being written while this place was booming will make it…boom again. I’unno, just a thought.

MFG just needs more things to make it stand out. As of now, Naruto and
Dragonball Z aren't really going to be luring in as many people as they
did a few years back.



If it had really up-to-date stuff on video games and lots of multimedia, it would bring it more people.

And some of those people are bound to write. Too bad all our video game news is on anime-related games. But yeah, you're right, Hal. We need...a gimmick, basically.

That would bring people, I guess enough to resuscitate the ailing heart of MFG. But what needs to be remembered is that the FanFiction area isn't going to be active unless there are people writing constantly because they want to, and not because they want their stuff commented on. Not to mention that FanFiction isn't as common as other things because it takes a really good writer to dish out some literature that is accepted, and not bashed into pieces which can push new guys away from writing.

it's not the problem of writing fics, people always write. It's just that no one wants to READ it. Admit it - reading on compu screen is really annoying unless you're very into the fic. I mean, it's hard to continue writing when you get no feedback.

Sadly, I have to agree, a lack of motivation and factors (feedback) influencing that go a LONG way to make this forum as active as it used to be.So we either try to do something, like something alongside the suggestions above or we go bury the dead >>. Now that MFG has a new look, maybe if the fan-fiction area had one too, some sort of rearrangement/alteration maybe to make it look new sort of. Though it really doesn't help it much as it's okay as it is but I think a bit of change would boost activity a bit, meh..

I had an idea of doing something similar to OMG S.I.C.K., with various writers from MFG contributing chapters and whatnot. I thought maybe that'd stir this place up. But the idea fell through. So now, I'm thinking I might write something like VA since it was SO effin' popular and cause some chaos.
Mostly, the good writers that once wrote don't because of lack of motivation (no feedback). In the long run, you're supposed to write for your own self-amusement, but still, feedback is also part of that. Nobody writes stories and doesn't plan to not show it to people. But also...yeah, the ones who do write often write so poorly that the readers quit reading halfway through and leave, without leaving feedback. So, yeah, lousy writers in a way, also killed this place. We've always had bad writers, but now that's all we have. (Not saying every single one of you is bad, but most the stories you click on is crap nowadays...)
That's my two cents.

Uh... sorry for sounding like... newbish(hm, I guess I kind am though) but uh... what are those two things I've highlighted? I haven't really seen 'em...

And the main problem with me is kinda motivation, the whole feedback thing, so uh... I'd say do something that promotes more feedback, even if it's bad, at least you know what to fix up, it'd help me get some motivation for writing again anyway...

Back in the "Golden Era" of MFG, there was an influx of fanfictions based on the members of MFG, I even made some. Some were about just cruising the forums, and in some the members knew each other in real life. Some were mediocre, and most were done by one member. OMG S.I.C.K. was done by a collection of writers, the one's considered "Elite" or some shit like that. It was popular, and considered the MFG story ever... =/
VA is a story I wrote where I asked people to make up a character and I'd use them in my story. It was popluar because everybody wanted to see how their characters were portrayed. It wasn't nothing great, but I'm sure if I ask for people to make characters, they will and everybody will be lined up to read it. >_>

Oh I see... yeah, I'd suggest going with a VA-type idea then, it'd certaintly get me interested in reading a fic, and makes the thing seem more interactive... so yeah, I'd cast a vote for that or a collab of top writers, alá S.I.C.K... but I'd say VA, simply cause it seems lke... well, a better idea, if ya want people to read it.

No problem, I like doin' stuff that makes me look smart, or allows me to brag about myself. >_> But yeah, I guess I'll do VA-type story if I do anything at all.

Yeah VA type actually does work well... I had started something like that on another forum a while ago(for a Street Fighter fic) and got huge response for it, so that should get some attention... only problem is axctually getting people top even pay enough attention to submit a char in the first place I guess...

In any case, good luck with that, I'll be keeping an eye for that, if only to submit a char of my own...lol. Ya mind PMing me if ya ever start that?

I like the contribute-your-character idea, and I agree it will raise the activity levels around here a bit.

But I think the 'getting a group together to write a fic' could really work. That way, we could get all the active and aspiring writers together and just sorta dish out chapters. And if nothing else, atleast the writers involved would comment on each other's contribution to the fic.
I dunno... Just a thought. *shrugs*
