Goku, obviously DBZ characters are overpowered. Goku would also take out any other ninja because that's how big of a gap the universes are...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Naruto, if your talking about development / personality, at least in Part I. Although, Goku's probably more likable.

Goku, easily. Naruto is a typical cliché Shônen "I fight for honor, and my friends!" character. Goku isn't, really, because Dragon Ball created a great deal of the Shônen clichés that we have today.

It's like comparing apples and oranges, except in this case, both fruits are rotten.

Honestly though, in terms of development, I'd say Naruto wins by quite a bit. In terms of actually liking the character...I'd probably go with Goku, prior to the end of the Cell Games anyways.

Well to this day I'd prefer to sit in a room with Son Goku than Naruto. There both wack-ass characters but I'd rather watch a fight with Son Goku than Naruto.

Goku's simple and easy to understand for everyone. He's also not the typical hero.

Naruto is definitely more complex, but his bottomless depression makes me wanna puke. He is a typical Shonen character, and that's what makes him so boring.

I don't really find many characters in the Naruto-verse really worth paying attention to. Even though I was always a sucker for Haku and Zabuza....I stopped watching/ reading after those two appeared in the series. There really weren't any more characters beyond that point in the series that caught my interest (aside from Jiraiya, who is an obvious rip-off of Roshi). I've never been a big Naruto fan anyway, the series is so overrated and over-advertised. I've seen plenty of not-so mainstream anime that are quite a bit better than Naruto.

I'd have to say Goku...the manga one. Believe it or not, Goku in the manga is more simple and air-heady than in the anime. The anime (especially the Dub) "bad-assed" him up too much so that he was more of a super-hero and not a simple goofy character like he was in the manga. In the anime, he becomes a typical hero, and it kills the individuality of his character.

Naruto sucked, I hated him so much. And what I saw of the fights involved something like this.

Naruto: Ha, eat this *throws a knife
Knife hits enermy
Enermy turns into a piece of wood
Enermy appears behind Naruto
Enermy: Oh that was just a fake, I hypnotised you the whole time
Enermy slashing Naruto
Naruto turns into a mushroom
Naruto appears behind enermy
Naruto: Ha, I acutally hypnotised you!
Naruto: Ha, eat this *throws a fork
Fork hits enermy
Enermy turns into a piece of cheese
Enermy appears behind Naruto
Enermy: Oh that was just a fake, I hypnotised you the whole time
Enermy cutting Naruto
Naruto turns into a cow
Naruto appears behind enermy
Naruto: Ha, I acutally hypnotised you!
Naruto: Ha, eat this *throws a pen

The fights were as interesting as that fight narration you just read, and although the DBZ fights were pretty crap also, Dragon Ball owned Naruto six ways to sunday
