Kanda is kewl but not the best character in D.Gray Man. The best characters are Allen and Lavi.

Lol That porbally because your source likes Saskue-esque characters. Yu is like the saskue of DGM. But he isn't really that over powered. And he doesn't reak of fan service. And his fights are actually okay to read/watch. And he somewhat begins to develop as the story goes on. And he's not the authors favorite character.

Yes. He's decent at best, more redeeming qualities than Hitsugaya and Sasuke at least.
