I happen to like Death Note as well. I like HunterxHunter, Naruto, Bleach, D.Gray Man, and Black Cat. I don't see why people can't just appreciate manga for what it is rather than what it's not.

AKA hating Naruto because it has vague similarities to and is more popular than HunterxHunter or hating Black Cat because it's characters are supposedly cliche then turning around and reading Berserk.

Like I said, I'm not a Berserk fanboy, But it's not just that Black Cat is cliché; it pretty much took a whole bunch of famous Shonen characters and mixed them together. Like some kind of crossover-wet dream thingy.

I've actually seen lengthy lists showing all of the characters and plot points were lifted from other manga to make Black Cat.

But besides all of that, the manga was just plain shit.

Naruto stole from Hunter X Hunter too, don't feel too bad, Sloth, Kentaro Yabuki isn't the only moocher to steal from a good series to make a half decent one.

I don't recall how the Chakra test went in Naruto (I do remember the Nen test, with the leaf on water, I believe?), so I can't comment on that one.

Shady organizations are nothing new in anime/manga, not to mention fiction in general.

I'm sure the slaughter of a race/clan has been done to death before (I can't think of any examples...), but even then, REVENGE is present in everything. Wanting revenge for a slaughtered clan isn't that unique of an idea.

And finally, I can name a thousand series that have characters with magical eyes.
