It depends on the amount of prep time Shikamaru gets and to what extent he can prepare to face someone like Kakashi.

Kakashi is no slouch; his intelligence is at least comparable to that of Shippuuden Shikamaru. His Ninjutsu and Taijutsu and everything else about him is just flat-out superior, and he's even the next in line for the Hokage title. Plus, Kakashi has over a thousand Jutsu. I think if Shikamaru had full knowledge of Kakashi's abilities- all 1,000+ of them -he probably wouldn't fuck with him, EVER. Shika can't just pull a Reed Richards and invent an Ultimate Nullifier to wtfpwn Kakashi.

Kakashi wins, with difficulty.

Okay I don't want to say but I'm gonna go with Shikamaru on this. The kid's a Genius and lets face it he wouldn't take down Kakashi without a damn good reason. Shikamaru's smarts, strategic thinking, and determination (something he never uses but when he has it he's practiacally impossible to beat) will overall kill Kakashi.

Unless of course Kakashi does some sort of wtfultrapwnhaxorz move and warps Shikamaru's head off of his shoulders.

I believe that shikamaru would realize the great diffrence between his own physical capabilities & kakashi's then plan accordingly, but he would also make certain that he had some way of dealing with the sharingan & raikiri. Theres is no doubt that he would take the time to figure effective counter measures & set up amazing traps that could even catch Kakashi off guard(especially if he was not expecting anything.) But as already mentioned Kakashi is full of powerful techniques that could tire shikamaru out quickly having to avoid or manage to counter them somehow. Infinite prep time & the element of surprise do push things in shikamaru's favor considerabley but does shikamaru know about all the jutsu & taijutsu that kakashi has copied with the sharingan as well? If kakashi has fully memorized some of those & saved them for emergencies he too would have an element of surprise for shikamaru. If shikamaru had at least one truly powerful jutsu, I would say he most likey wins, but as things are i might have to call it a tie.

In most of his fights, if they had dragged on his genius would have gotten him beat because of endurance problems. Although I tend to believe that if he had full knowledge from the beginning things would go easier for him but that still doesn't help his stamina and chakra drainage.

he's more observant, experienced, smarter, has more jutsu, awesome dogs, the sharingan.

even with prep time, shikamaru coulndt beat kakashi in a 1000 years....

what shikamaru relies on are his shadows and his smarts.
which both will be useless against kakashi since he can copy, or has already copied the shadow jutsu and is smarter than shika.

and even if shikamaru is aware of kakashi's capabilities kakashi is also aware of shika's.

@ Raven: you keep saying stuff like, 'Shikamaru's overall endurance and chakra drainage would loke him the fight,' but if he had a shit load of prep time and knew about all of this beforehand, then he'd devise a plan accordingly. He'd use external forces, like already set-up traps, et cetera. Just generally planning ahead. Thats what you don't seem to realize.

Because Neji's taijutsu is only useful if you have the Byakugan, and Chouji's jutsu are pretty useless for a dude like Kakashi. The only stuff you actually need to be apart of a clan to be able to do is kekkai genkai, and clan secrets, like Shino's bugs. The jutsu Shikamaru performs can probably be replicated if given the opportunity.
