No chapter this coming week but it's up for predictions anyways. (It will be funny to see the inevitable fake spoilers that roll out anyways)

Do you think Itachi knew something bad was going to happen before or after he killed his clan? Possibly he found out that the Uchihas were planning something. Or did he and Madara simply want to prevent a repeat of the past Madara incident? Was he sent on this as a mission by Konoha? Why would Itachi have killed his clan if he wanted to protect Konoha? Something he figured out after his defection or before?

More questions than predictions but I find it likely something along these lines will be revealed next chapter.

I hate the fact that Itachi might become some tragic hero that was secretly sacrificing himself for Konoha and for Sasuke.

I think Itachi will come out like he found out the uchiha were planning to take out the Konoha sao he wanted to stop the clan.

Thats what puzzles me if Itachi was such a good guy why try and capture Naruto for the Akatsuki

He never really... did, though. He ran away before, and when presented with the opportunity again, recently, he didn't do anything. He just said he had to tell Naruto something (which I think is bullshit: I think Kishi just wanted Itachi and Naruto to encounter, but not have Itachi... kill Naruto).

And theories that Itachi did all this so Sasuke could surpass him and save Konoha somehow seem most probable, to me.

Naruto was Pein's goal, not Madara's or Itachi's. Itachi might have let Naruto live / stay uncaptured for his own ends. Or Madara may have ordered Itachi to let Naruto stay as he is in spite of Pein's wishes. Don't forget that if the Kyuubi gets sealed, the Mangekyou's ability to control it would prove useless.

The more the manga proceeds, the more I feel that Kishimoto irreparably severed the two plotlines and now is struggling to put them back together.

We have no confirmation that Itachi did anything to begin with. Saying he can never make up for what he did is like prematurely and arbitrarily deciding he's guilty before being presented with adequate evidence to fairly make that judgment.

We know Itachi was there during the clan murder. Uh...so were the rest of the Uchiha. Sasuke was only gone because he had to go to school. We also know that Madara was there during the clan massacre, as well as the fact that he participated in it. It seems a little too coincidental if you ask me.

IMO, Madara killed the clan and Itachi tried (but failed) to stop him. By the time Sasuke showed up, Madara had already boned-out, possibly thinking he had gotten them all (or maybe he left Sasuke alive on purpose), which would've left Itachi in a pretty tight situation.

I think that itachi confronted madara in the one room where sasuke found itachi,and madara must have done something then left, leaving itachi in the room for sasuke to then find him.what do you guys think?

Both of you pretty much figured out what I've been saying all along.

I mean, it's not like Itachi could do anything to take the blame off himself. "Oh, hei, Sawsgey, lol our parents r ded & i'm standing right here covered in blood, but u no, i didn't do dis, srsly, it was Madara, the guy who founded Konoha and should be dead; he's really an immortal, and he did dis, not me, so uh, we kool, ryte?"

Yeah lol but anyway I still wanna know if madara and itachi fought or not,because that would be one sweet fight to see, plus it doesn't explain how itachi got the mangekyo sharingan

I would definitely like to see Madara vs. Itachi. Back then, it was probably a rapestomp, but if they fought now, I bet it'd be pretty close, and epic as fuck.
