Deidara=Sasuke: Sasuke managed to win (or so it seems) because he had the elemental advantage, but they're essentially at the same level

Therefore, Sasori>Sasuke=Deidara>Orochimaru.

EDIT: And for the record, the good guys (especially Sasuke) are the ones that need the ass-whooping, not the bad guys. We've seen enough god-modding (i.e., Naruto insta-pawning Kakuzu, Sasuke killing Orochimaru in one chapter, etc.) from the good guys, who get instant power-ups out of nowhere and come up with insane genius strategies.

It's a character poll as voted by fans of the manga. If the general opinion is that Sasuke > Deidara, then would that not mean that Sasuke is much more popular and consequently much preferred than Deidara?

Or are you just trying to say that you like Deidara better? ;/

"Popular" and "cool" aren't...exactly the same thing. More people can agree on something than on something else, but that's just...how do you say?..."popular". Now, Deidara's 3rd in that poll, only a stone's throw from Sasuke. So it's not like Sasuke is more popular by a landslide. But as far as coolness goes...what has Sasuke shown? A few Chidori tricks? Deidara's skills are geniunely awesome. I mean, for Christ's sake, he strategies and Houdini escapes are as good as or better than Sasuke's. Blows himself up in a suicidal attempt to kill Team Gai and Team Kakashi. Dead? No. It was a clone, and he hid underground. Pinned to C2 Dragon with shuriken as it crashes and detonates. Dead? No. Escapes by pulling the shuriken out with his feet. Chidori'd through the chest. Dead? No. Another clone, while Deidara pops out of his clay bird from below and engulfs Sasuke in C4. He pulls off this shit that any other bad guy would probably end up falling victim to in an embarrassing Kakuzu-esque way. Now, you can say Sasuke done some impressive escapes too, but he's a main character. OF COURSE HE ISN'T GOING TO DIE. Deidara doesn't have that going for him. He's just. Fucking. Cool.

1. Those ninjas probably weren't any stronger than Mizuki on average. Kimimaro probably could've done the same thing with only slightly more effort put forth.

2. Orochimaru was in a weakened state, AND he was pulling his punches to try not to kill Sasuke.

3. Suigetsu and Juugo don't seem very strong. Probably Kakashi/Gai-level at best. After all, Juugo had been kept in check by Kimimaro, who we all know is nothing special, and Suigetsu sorta shit himself when he saw Juugo go Cursed Seal.

4. Just an elemental advantage. Hardly an achievement on Sasuke's part.

Deidara has plenty on that:

1. He infiltrated Suna ALONE, defeated/captured their Kazekage (Gaara, who was, *gasp*, a main character) with a genius strategy, despite the latter having a few major advantages.

2. Has survived numerous close-calls, as I stated previously.

3. CAN FREAKING NUKE VILLAGES.

4. Can create microscopic bombs that do damage on a cellular level.

5. HAS DEVELOPED HIS LEFT EYE TO COUNTER SHARINGAN GENJUTSU, a thing that's been unheard of in all of the Naruto series. For anyone else, looking a Sharingan user in the eyes means death. Deidara's the only non-Uchiha who can tackle the Sharingan's illusionary powers and fend them off.

Now about who's stronger between Deidara & Sasori. You have to consider these 2 things when Deidara made his statement about who's stronger between him & Sasori.

1) Deidara ran out of explosives since he was unprepared.

2) Deidara had to endure the pain of his left arm that was torn by Gaara without any medical treatment for 3 days & 3 nights while concentrating his chakra on sealing the Shukaku.

When Deidara stated that Sasori was stronger than him, he really meant that Sasori was stronger than him at the moment. Remember, Sasori wasn't greatly injure or unprepared before Deidara made his statement. Now if you add the 6 months that leads into the "Current arc", Deidara would be far stronger than Sasori now because of recent development of "the new gen surpassing the old gen". Therefore, Deidara is stronger one between the 2 of them.

Sasori can also switch bodies, and I'd bet that at least ONE of his puppets has a Raiton affinity. And, knowing Sasori, he'd probably have Deidara's bombs figured out and pull off a Sasuke bomb-defusion. And come on, Deidara could barely avoid Gaara's sand. There's no way he'd be able to dodge the Satetsu, let alone the rest of Sasori's arsenal if Sasori gets serious and pulls out everything at once. And...yeah, Sasori's faster. And then there's the poison. Always with the poison. So don't bullshit me with C4. It's basically the same damned thing as poison, but Sasori's faster, stronger, and has a lot more crap to throw out than Deidara. Deidara may have improved, but he's still far from being better than his old "Master". Which, by the way, is something else: HE CALLED SASORI "MASTER" ("Sasori no Dana"). He deferred to Sasori as the superior shinobi, and it was Sasori who was constantly lashing out at HIM when angry, not the other way around.

And don't give me this "new gen-old gen" bullshit either. That's not an absolute rule. Tsunade can still beat the hell out of Sakura anyday, Kakashi isn't quite as good as his dad (who was stated to be on par with the Sannin), Yamato is no Shodaime, and I really don't have the time to go through the damn list. Point is, it's about skill, not age.

Tsunade can still beat the hell out of Sakura anyday, Kakashi isn't quite as good as his dad (who was stated to be on par with the Sannin), Yamato is no Shodaime, and I really don't have the time to go through the damn list. Point is, it's about skill, not age.

Sasori>Deidara=Sasuke>Orochimaru

Popular=Cool, therefore is Sasuke is cooler/popular than Deidara.

Deidara is stronger than Sasori. He proves this by capturing Gaara, survivng his encounter with both Team Kakashi & Team Gai with no arms, capturing the Sanbi, taking on Sasuke & develop a way to counter the Sharingan's genjutsu. Sasori isn't Sasuke, he wouldn't be able to counter C4 like Sasuke did since he doesn't have the Sharingan. Sasori would be dead once C4 microbombs enter his body. Deidara was the strongest between the 2 of them. Sasori's purpose was to hype up Sakura's character that's all.

Sasuke > Deidara > Orochimaru > Sasori

isnt Sasori a damn puppet btw??? how the hell is he gonna breathe in lil micro C4 bombs??? Deidara "could" possibly make a sneak attack and bomb the hell out of Sasori... but Sasori got all those puppet junk for Deidara to deal with... well... Deidara could possibly dodge all of those puppets anyways... Deidara could win in an open area where he could use his C2 Dragon... but Sasori is gonna win anyways... especially in an enclosed area...

so: Sasori > Deidara

and that Sasuke and Deidara thing... grr... im so damn tired Sasuke always winning and shit... and how the hell did Naruto defeat damn Kakuza... he is like grr... an Akatsuki member... its like Akatsuki could let anyone in... especially someone shitty like Naruto... Kakuza could have won if it was a 1 vs 1 battle... dammit... Life isnt fair...

I'm expecting Tobi to step in and stop Deidera from being killed off.

This whole, Akatsuki getting owned thing is getting a little annoying. As much as we know they will be defeated, it's still being done in a rediculously over-powered manner.

No, only Deidara and Tobi score relatively high in the Shonen Jump's popularity polls. Naruto and Sasuke are almost always 1 and 2, from what I recall.

EDIT: And for the record, the good guys (especially Sasuke) are the ones that need the ass-whooping, not the bad guys. We've seen enough god-modding (i.e., Naruto insta-pawning Kakuzu, Sasuke killing Orochimaru in one chapter, etc.) from the good guys, who get instant power-ups out of nowhere and come up with insane genius strategies.
