It requires a bloodline steming from the clan. I'll give you an example, however this is a spoiler from the Manga Episode 399 so if you don't want to find out don't read.

Okay than, Madara fought Harashima (incorrect spelling?) The 1st Hokage. This person was a memeber of the fierce Senju clan, with the ability to mix the two elemts water and earth to create wood and wood jutsu. (Seen in the battle with Sarutobi Vs. Orochimaru, the 1st Hokage uses his forest jutsu) Madara, of course, lost. Now tell me, if the Sharingan (and this was not any sharingan, it was the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, The ultimate sharingan) can copy any technique why didn't Madara copy The 1st Hokage's jutsu and turn it against him? Oh yah, becuase he didn't have the Senju Bloodline there for he couldn't copy the Jutsu.

In another Instance, Kakshi Vs. Zabuza, we all know he used his Sharingan to copy certain technques to gain victory. But why didn't Kakashi copy Haku's jutsu when he had the chance? I'm certain that Demonic Ice Mirrors and the ability to manipulate water and turn it into ice would be very, very useful to Kakashi. The reason is that Kakashi cannot copy the jutsu unless he has the bloodline of that clan (which he doesn't), therefore, he doesn't waste his time.

If Shikamaru has the element of surprise he could get Kakashi in that shadow strangle thing and strangle him. I don't think in terms of brute force that the gap between post-ts Shikamaru and Kakashi is as big as the gap between pre-ts Shikamaru and CS2 Tayuya.

Yeah shadow techniques can be copied but the bugs are inside the persons body from when the person was young they make a pct with them. So you can't really copy the bugs because you would have to get some inside of you and make a pact and all that.

This advanced bloodline is seen in the series by Nara Shikamaru. This clan uses their advanced bloodline more so for defence than offence. They have the ability to put the enemy to a complete stand still position and become unable to attack or defend. This clan uses their shadows to fuse with that of the opponents shadow to control and manipulate that of say the opponents body. This is of course very effective for use when in a fight as the user can control the opponent at their own will, which would make a comfortable win. The Jutsus which Nara has shown have been Kagemane (Shadow Copy) and Shadow Neck Bind. These both which have been seen in the series of Naruto.

The Nara Clan is very lazy clan they have a very laid back approach to life. Take one of the members for instance, Shikamaru is very intelligent, but very lazy and he just wants to stare at the clouds than do anything else. This clan is so laid back and lazy that for example the Nara Clan member Nara Shikamaru made it to the Chuunin exam finals and his father didnt know until the day before the finals and couldn't care about them. The Nara Clan specialises in the use of shadows during a fight. To use their shadows they have to create ¡§specialized¡¨ chakra in order to perform their jutsus, also with that the clan also farms deer and uses the deer¡¦s antlers for medicine as well. The Nara Clan have the ability to trap opponents with their shadow which can lead to death for the opponent. Despite this clan being so laid back, especially Nara Shikamaru he has an IQ of over 200.

Nara Shikamaru is the person who can always come up with a strategy no matter what the environment is like. Nara Shikamaru is a very powerful and intelligent ninja who despite his grades being almost as low as Naruto's from the Academy, but this was basically because he thought that even raising his pencil was to much of a bother and usually slept through class. Shikamaru's specialty jutsu is KageMane no Jutsu (the shadow imitation technique). This jutsu is basically the only jutsu in which he uses but he uses it very wel.

This clan from Konoha Village is known for its ability to manipulate their shadow. Utilizing this ability the clan member can attach their shadow to the shadow of another individual, and then take control of the user. Resulting in the affected person replicating or "shadowing" the exact movements in mirror form of the clan member.

Regardless of what it is, if Shikamaru was about to get killed by Tayuya using his strongest jutsu then there's no way in hell it would work on Kakashi who's a thousand times more experienced and stronger, faster, etc....

Kakashi would just have some way of countering it, even if it did give him trouble. I could see how this shadow technique might counter Raikiri but I doubt it would do anything to his Mangekyou technique. Shikamaru isn't nearly fast enough to avoid it either.

Shikamaru FTW. Kakashi is talented, but he isn't a genius. Given enough time and knowledge of everything that Kakashi can do, Shikamaru will curb stomp Kakashi.
