I'd rather watch a program in my native language than in Japanese. Voices aren't just for effect. Voices are added to be listened to. Why even have voices if they can't be understood? It adds effect, but if I miss a subtitle because I'm caught up in the actual show, then all I hear is some Japanese man screaming nonsense at the top of his lungs. Of course, that's just me. I'm incorrect, though. You all obviously know my tastes better than me, or at least that's the impression I'm getting. Seriously, shut the fuck up. You sound like immature children arguing which flavor of ice cream is better. Fact is, its a preference. Is your preference better than mine? You know yourself better than I do, so I'd assume you'd know what's better for you. But to tell someone else what's better for them? Shut up. Some can better relax by listening. Some can better relax by watching. Guess what! Not everyone is the same. Are you gonna tell me what I prefer? No. I'd rather listen to something than read blurry subtitles. If you're all about trying to be pure and capturing the essence of the original content, go for it. Just stop acting like an asshole and 'proving' which is better.

I dislike the dub for reasons already stated. I feel that the voice cast is full of overactors. For those of us unfamiliar to the term, Jim Carrey is an overactor for humorous purpouses. Under almost all other circumstances, overacting is a bad thing. The performance of the English voice cast, for me, lacked believability. Strained or awkward pronounciation is a factor for me as well.

Island, you're evidently barking up the wrong tree. The dub fans are the ones who got on the subbed fans cases in the first place.

island, just fyi, we were stating personal preferences and saying why we liked one over the other. I don;t recall calling anyone stupid or that I was better than them because they liked the dub over the sub. Also, don't recall saying that something was better for them (if anything, those arguing for the dub were being the condescending assholes). Thank you, though, for putting those words in my mouth and making me out to be an asshole

I'd say the dub is probably better than the Japanese version. But that may be because I'm biased towards subfags who prefer a language which isn't even their OWN, so they have to read subtitles on the bottom of the screen instead of listening to it, which is the natural way of doing it.

Unless you speak Japanese you "most likely" will miss subtle natures or meanings enshrouded within the language. Island, we were arguing about preferences and I am defending Shiro's points too. But I'll argue for as long as I feel like it and it's not like the forum doesn't need to activity so hush. ;)

If I knew Japanese I'd agree with you Jehuty but fact is I don't so I will never prefer subs over dubs unless it's mandatory. It's true that the original is usually better. It's also true that (to me) animation cannot be fully grasped unless you understand what is being said but some just like reading. I don't like being distracted by having to read subtitles but that's me. Enough said I guess. =/

First of all, I'm not anyone's kid on this message board. I don't want anyone talking to me like I'm their child. This has just gotten out of hand...

I wasn't trying to argue it just for the hell of it. I was trying to get across that when you watch something in a language you can understand, you can better grasp it. At least it differs from person to person, obviously. I defend anyone's right in here to like subs, but I didn't want to let people take a dump on dubs when I've honestly listened to subs and have disliked some of them.

I guess we should just give it a rest though, it does boil down to preferences in the end.

The original topic of the debate wasn't subs vs. dubs. It was specifically about the Naruto dub's quality. Then Shiro went and blasted that all to hell.

Probably because the usual bunch of sub fans come in all "Dub sux, shit sux." I've seen it one too many times, I've done it myself, but then I actually went and watched the dub instead of trying to be cool and think Japanese is cool and my own language is shitty.

I like both despite the fact that the majority of the people I know hate them for no reason other than that they're Japanese.
