Rate the Akatsuki members from strongest to weakest. Post who and why.
My list would be:

1. Madara Uchiha (Warping techniques and Eternal Magenkyou Sharingan)
2.Pein ( Six bodies, each master of every art)
3.Itachi Uchiha ( Uchiha hax, Tsukuyomi, can make flames hotter than the Sun, and a warrior who takes you to another dimension is nothing to laugh about)
4.Sasori ( Instant kill poison, and more than a hundred puppets make him deadly)
5.Kisame (Absorbing chakra sword, greater Taijutsu than Gai, has HUGE amounts of chakra, and he is damn fast)
6.Deidara ( Fast as hell, his bombs are really fast too, blocks any Genjutsu, and the C4 is one of the deadliest techniques in all the Narutoverse)
7.Kakuzu ( Elemental master, can cure himself, very fast, body hardening jutsu that makes him harder than steel, and great Taijutsu)
8. Hidan ( His strategy is great, but he it was stated that he was the slowest Akatsuki member)
9. Konan ( We havent seen much of her, but the one technique he did was easily countered by Jiraiya)
10. Zetsu ( Loser, we havent seen anything from him)

I mostly agree with that, except I'd place Itachi above Pein, and Konan above Hidan. Also, Zetsu hasn't shown anything, so it's not right to judge/include him.

I'd mostly agree with that except as Niku said, Konan above Hidan and also Zetsu between newly-placed Konan and Kakuzu: roughly Orochimaru-level.

Hidan openly admitted that he was the slowest member of Akatsuki. He's also the next rookie of the group after Tobi, which actually, technically makes him the rookie, since Tobi is really the freaking boss of the leader of Akatsuki. I also can't see how, if it came down to a fight, Hidan could possibly get any blood from...paper. On top of that, with the exception of his rope-scythe, Hidan is a close-range fighter exclusively, while Konan can disperse into paper and not only attack at any range, but from any number of directions as well, simultaneously.

Zetsu hasn't been shown fighting. You shouldn't include him at all.

What would be cool was if Zetsu actually gained the special abilities and unique skills of all the shinobi he's devoured, i.e clan techniques and even kekkai genkai. I remember during the Rescue Gaara Arc when Zetsu spies on the rescue team, he has a special zooming ability that reminded me heavily of Byakugan...

Pein has never been defeated, he easiley masters any jutsu, he has the most powerful dojutsu and defeated Jiraiya using senjutsu. I'd place him on par with Madara--seing how Madara was defeated by Shodai and all--I'd say that he's above.

But in the end Kishimoto's love for the Sharingan will triump.

Never lost? Chuunin Exams Gaara had never been scratched. Easily masters any Jutsu? Itachi is an Uchiha with Sharingan copying, and a genius among Uchiha at that. Most powerful Doujutsu? It was only stated by Jiraiya that Rinnegan was the strongest. Mangekyou is a clan secret that even the Uchiha's leader, Fugaku, admitted to knowing very little about. Therefore, Jiraiya did not know of Mangekyou Sharingan when he made that statement, let alone Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. Jiraiya was a nuub at using Senjutsu, also, so beating him is hardly a big deal. Madara lost to Shodai back when he was young, weak, and stupid, and back when Shodai had Kyuubi-hax and a Bijuu army.

And yes, Kishi's Sharingan hardon will triumph.

Why isn't he the leader? Because Madara doesn't trust him. They loathed eachother. Itachi was the obstacle that prevented Madara from destroying Konoha, and Madara was the villain who threatened the lives of the people Itachi cared about.

The fact is, Itachi WAS using Akatsuki. Madara even stated that Itachi joined just to keep an eye on them and sabotage them from the inside, leaking their secrets and shit. Itachi followed Pein's "orders" at his liesure, just as the rest of Akatsuki did. Why didn't Itachi confront Pein? Because Itachi, god though he is, cannot solo Akatsuki.

And one more fact, Kishi's "Fanboy Power-Up"s are canon. So Sharingan>Rinnegan, whether you like it or not.

I can imagine Pain can revive people from being mindfucked/isn't affected, what with hivemind, so Tsukuyomi isn't effective. Taijutsu is ineffective, and Ninjutsu is absorbed. Uchiha ninjutsu is all ocular, so unless Itachi can croon someone into a genjutsu, Pain has him down.

And I'd say Jiraiya knew of the Mangekyou, as Kakashi did... just not in its specifics. He was confused about the black fire, but knew how effing powerful it was, and saw that he mindfucked Kakashi and Sasuke in one go. Only Susano'o and the Nine-Tails were lost to him. Plus, it blinds you. Eternal Mangekyou is ridiculously strong, though.

Anyway, onto the list.
1. Madara. Eternal Mangekyou - no blindness, warping, Mangekyou jutsu without severe drawbacks. Assuming Pain isn't secretly Rikudou Sennin in disguise, has ages of experience.

2. Pain. Six-way vision, no blindspot, and six paths of destruction, that's a pretty sick arsenal. Can revive his own bodies, possibly posses others... basically immortal unless completely eradicated in one go.

3. Itachi. Dude was a pro, no question about it. With the Izanagi Gods jutsu, he was basically unstoppable. His cold demeanor left him unreadable in combat. Fast as fuck, too.

4. Kakuzu. Now things get tricky. Kakuzu has all five elements mastered, so unless a true genius with an S-Rank jutsu at his disposal comes at him, he's damn strong. Can rip out people's hearts to gain vitality. Fought Shodai and survived, an impressive enough feat.

5. Sasori. A master puppeteer, with over a hundred puppets at his disposal. Poison strong enough that only Tsunade and her pupils could even have a chance at stopping it.

6. Deidara. Unless someone finds out about the whole lightning thing, C4 chakra will get them. Tactical, calculating, his only true weakness was his fanaticism about art.

7. Hidan. Immortal. Capable of killing enemies with his own wounds. Simple enough, right?

8. Kisame. Epic chakra, brute force, water jutsu, and a chakra-stopping sword, Kisame was damned powerful, forcing Guy to unleash his gates.

9. Zetsu. We haven't seen much of anything, but the guy can travel pretty fast and can see through things. So that's something.

10. Konan. OH NO, STICKY LIQUID! MY ONE WEAKNESS!
