If you say Itachi and Orochimaru, shit's gonna go down heavy. If you say Deidara and Hidan (I think they were from Rock), shit is also gonna go down heavy. And you best be joking if you mean Pain and Konan, though Konan is the outright weakest.

What makes you think Madara is weaker than Pein? After all Pein is taking orders from Madara not the other way around.

orders do not necessarily mean they are stronger , was danzou or the third hokage stronger than itachi when they asked him to kill the clan(i am assuming this was not a lie by madara) The most influential part is that pain hasnt lost a battle, madara did lose to shodai. undefeated is alway number one or tied with number one.

Also im having doubts about my list because certain akatsuki would do better against other akatsuki members . ie sasuke got away from deidara using manda, sasori could not escape something of that magnitude, he doesnt have the speed. Some characters are stronger against certain opponents and weaker against other types.

pain has strongest eyes of three according to jiraiya. pain underwent an apotheosis. If madara was taking orders from pain in the first place we would all have said yup hes stronger than madara. In my opinion theres not enough to work with yet. If base it only on orders, then yes, madara is stronger than pain.

Proven wrong? Logical error much? Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence much? Jiraiya's statement can be taken as not proven, but it can't be taken as proven wrong.

Well, the Sasuke ranked is after Itachi removed the curse mark, Orochimaru's repertoire of justu being removed, and with the true nature of his MS being a secret (meaning I can't really count it), I see him as weaker than Orochimaru.
