So, I was thinking. Kakuzu, unlike most Naruto characters is completely unnatural. There were also few flashbacks of Kakuzu. The only known information is that he’s a Waterfall ninja and once battled Shodai Hokage. What if he was some sort of genetic mutation, possibly an experiment? What if the Waterfall Village built Kakuzu as a biological weapon like Mewtwo? His purpose was to destroy other tribes and effectively conquer the world. However, he escaped, slaughtered hundreds, fought Shodai, and fled into hiding for several years until he began using his rage to benefit his survival. I mean, he’s a walking rag doll. He can take in foreign organs and reattach lost limbs. He can destroy forests with his elemental blasts. Even by Naruto standards, that’s very unnatural. It also reminds me of Mewtwo - built with an ultimate offense and defense.

So, uh, thoughts?

Perhaps he's the last in a line where the threads that he has were a Kekkei Genkai. The reason he could have fought Shodai is because his clan went up against the Senju.

I think he's more likely to be a Advanced Bloodline. Kimimaro (sp?) seemed as unnatural, but he was just the last of his kind.

What about Deidara? It's not every day you see a guy with 3 extra mouths. =/

Though, I doubt Kishimoto will reveal why Kakuzu is the way he is. (though, it would be awesome if he did.) Though, there's a possiblity that, while Madara is reminiscing, he will bring up Kakuzu at some point.

In truth, I always thought of it to be some sort of Forbidden Jutsu. Though, I'd say a Kekkai Genkai makes more sense for Kakuzu. Otherwise Orochimaru would've done the same thing.

He maybe like the Waterfalls secret weapon, that they would usee like in case of emergecy, like if they would to be attacked and they could not handle the threat. But once they release him he turned on the village.

Something like that seems plausible.

Due to his money obsession, I think it's clear he got his start as a paid-assassin for feaudal lords and worked his way up to Shinobi leaders. The attempted hit on Shodai may have had other unkown motives, however.

I disagree with him being a genetic experiment. That makes him like...Wolverine. Might be a mad-scientist who experimented on himself. Then again, we've already had Orochimaru.

Anyway, I think Kakuzu was just some rogue ninja who wanted to prolong his life. He killed so many people, one day, he just decided to pull a "Madara" and steal body parts from people.

I seriously doubt it's a Kekkei Genkai, since Kakuzu has multiple blood flows with different blood (otherwise, Hidan's little ritual would've killed all of his hearts). Also, a Kekkei Genkai doesn't explain the masks.

I think Kakuzu is an accumulation of modifications that he made to himself over time, sort of like a precursor to Orochimaru (he IS older by an indefinite number of decades).

As for when Kakuzu fought Shodai, I think it may've happened after the founding of Konoha, when Madara was gone. Madara probably hired him to take Shodai out, and Kakuzu stormed the village and began a massacre. Shodai hears about a "monster" tearing up his village, rushes to the scene, fights off Kakuzu, Kakuzu escapes... That's how I see it.
