Like I said before, Senju clan > Uchiha clan. This week's chapter (399) actually prove it.

It's says that they were rivals, and that the Uchiha supported Shodai. It says nothing about either being superior. The fact that they both dealt huge losses to each other supports that they were close to equal.

I would say a character anointed the strongest in Naruto is up for grabs really. My candidates for that title are....

Naruto: Nine tailed-Fox!
Pein: Dude crushed Jirayai easily and is said to have the best eye jutsu around (even among Uchihas)!
Madara: For Obvious reasons that don't need to be mentioned.
Orochimaru: Possibly the True villain of the entire series!
Saskue: Obvious reasons!

That's my list for potential strongest. Now from what I have seen so far in the series, Itachi is the strongest character shown.

If he could call out all nine tails, he might be the strongest, but there are techniques available to make that power moot. As it stands, Naruto by himself is a tad above Kakashi.

^ ^ There was more than 3 fights in the movie, don't you remember. Naruto fought those 3 ninjas at the palace, Neji fought the leader of the four at the waterfall, and Naruto also fought that kunoichi who can use water and fire jutsus.

It's not official at all. They contended with each other about evenly, and each's leader had Bijuu manipulating powers.
