I have noticed that Flying seems to be a major feet for humans, and perhaps is under thought what it take to achieve doing it.
We first see true flying with ki in the crane school, Tien and Crane hermit. I believe Chaozu used a psychic type of levitation. Then with krillin in the budakai when they thought he was going to go out bounds he shocked everyone that he had learned to fly in the time he trained. Then What about Roshi and Yajirobe, They are both very powerful for humans, even early on. Neither of them bother to do it? Why? It wold be a great thing to learn if you could. Then There is dende, a young namek boy who can fly, but slow for his powerlevel. (compared to Krillin) Then there is Videl... What does it require to fly? What level... Now I always thought It didn't take anything to fly. Well Then I noticed something in the manga that is said more than once. Volume 5 Bulma asked gohan and krillin to carry here with flight- Gohan:...It take so much chi to fly, the bad guys'd find us if we used it! Then when Krillin is following dende to guru's- Krillin: I could grab him and gun it...But I shouldn't use alot of chi power at the moment...after all.. How strong do you have to be? Krillin and Gohan where jumping island to island with running in between jumps when they had there levels surpressed low enough to not be found, but once they got up to dodoria, krillin says to hide there chi complelty but his scouter picks ups "a very small chi". Krillin refers to Dende to having a tiny chi. What is tiny? Could a person with a powerlevel of 5 learn to fly? Doesn't seem so , not with krillin saying it takes a lot of chi and Gohan also states it. Then in the Cell saga, Tien and Piccolo are trying to catch Cell, and defeat him, They always arrive just late or they raise there levels to fly, and get there asap, but cell just hides and they are stuck without finding him, Tien says: WE CAN"T COME FAST ENOUGH IF WE SUPRESS OUT CHI!!! Supressing you chi would have to below what a scouter or a being would sense as being a concern or above the chis of normal beings. It would see having a level of a normal being or slightly above it would not allow you to fly in any circumstance. SO what does this mean? Is Videl stronger than many put her? Crane hermit flys in the same range as roshi, Could it be that Videl is upper towards 100? |

According to the Daizenshu timeline, Videl learned to levitate in less than a day, and took 11 days to master it. Videl is stronger than Hercule, the strongest fighter on earth, but if she was much stronger they would probably have noticed. I think anyone can learn to fly easily.

I think its just that you can't control your ki and supress while using Bukujutsu. Nothing to do with power level.

A little off topic, but I often wondered why Taopaipai relied on pillars and other similar objects to fly around. Seeing as bukujutsu was one of the signature moves of the Crane school, shouldn't he have mastered it?

As for your other points about chi and flying, I think the speed of the flight would determine the output of chi from the person. We see this after Kuririn's powerup from Saichoro, as his speed drastically increases after gaining a lot more power. So the slower you fly the less chi you use, IMO. I'm not sure about Videl. To be honest I don't follow the Buu saga as closely as I used to, haha. |

Flying is just a technique it's achieved through skill rather than power. Yes weaklings like Videl won't project an aura but still.
