Tien did retire from trying to keep up with goku but he wouldn't just stop all training, he probably continued to progress chaozu and himself slightly.

I think he retired after the Cell Games because he no longer participated in any major fights.

I think he wouldn't have retired immediately after the CG. Because seriously, he's not Vegeta, he doesn't just train to defeat Goku. He would train to further himself as much as he can, to reach the highest level of strength he can.

And SSJ4 makes a good point, Buu fired those blasts and Tien was in the middle of training. I believe you wouldn't train all day every day just to keep your power at its current level, and so I think Tien didn't retire until 2 years after the Buu Saga(When he hit 50 or 51)

I think Tien never stopped training to be honest. But I think he did stop training SERIOUSLY after the Cell Games.

When Tien trained after the Cell Games after admitting he can never catch Goku. Lol, even if he just trains to stay at the same level he's just bettering himself and not training anything to do with Goku, amirite?

He likely increased his power alot after the Cell Games. That was a large gap.

Who cares, what I'm saying is that if Tien trained to maintain his fitness, that means he trained for himself as stated by you. Meaning thats its entirely possible for him to be training for himself to better himself regardless of Goku.

He know's he will never match a super saiyan powerlevel and the itme chamber would just be taking years off his life much sooner. Si he became ascetic and lived in the mountains and cold places to Launch coudln't keep up.
