Don't assume you know what Toriyama was talking about, I believe he would have said "Wow it seems that hybrid is much stronger than a Saiyan", rather than all hybrids. Plus that statement is not contradicted in any way throughout the series, and actually backed up by Goten and Trunk's bullshit power levels.

I'm not assuming, I'm coming to a conclusion based upon facts. Toriyama never meant for DBZ to go past Freeza. Gohan would've been the only one. That changed. Goten and Trunks never showed any indication of being at the level of Gohan. Ever.

Why?

Hybrids get their strength from both alien and human parent. Even if Goten and Trunks potential is less than Gohan, they are higher than Saiyan.

What kid have you heard of able to turn SSj at so early an age (minus Broli)?

Wouldn't Toriyama then make another statement later on, such as Vegeta"Wow, it seems only Gohan was uber strong and other half-breeds are actually weaker than us!"

Well... no. Because they are uber-strong. They just don't have the hidden power that Gohan does.

One would assume that the power lies dormant within normal Saiyans, and must be awakened or "unlocked" through some form of emotional pain or anguish. It's possible that Goten and Trunks were born with the ability already unlocked, so it wouldn't have to be awakened. They were born with the ability to go Super Saiyan at will.

It is possible, but highly unlikely. If it were genetic, than both Pan and Bra probably would've been born as SSj, and they clearly weren't. But of course there's the possibility that the SSj gene (if it does exist) is carried on the Y chromesome, and that would explain why the girls weren't able to achieve it.
