I could imagine a video parody of a catfood ad being ade with Yamcha and Puar, but I don't remember any lines... >__>;;

Wasn't the reaosn the dub said 5 because they hadn't dubbed Dragonball at the time, took a look, and guessed he looked about that age? It's sort of easy to understand, since Goten and Trunks look about the same height/taller than the 12-year-old Goku.

FUNimation may provide deplorable scriptwriting and translations but all they provide is a dub of an already flawed adaptation of a Manga. I feel a notable amount of the dub music is at least with merit, what with the unsettling trills and quiet tones that set a good mood to whatever footage (even if some of the streaks are too subtle at abrupt ends). The powerful vocals of the Japanese version are good and classic (even being unconventional, at least in some way, but such music allows Dragonball to be construed as a preteen's series or vice versa), and obviously, the same amount of money wasn't put into the dub score, but I still feel some of it is quite good and offers a new depth of interpretation to each scene (with the Japanese score bringing thoughts of Dragonball right off the bat), even if some of their music is hokey. IMO.

That aside, the anime itself is already immensely flawed, but then again, even if the Manga has brevity and quality, it isn't without flaw either. For some fans, Goku just carried the series and I see why Toriyama-sensei wanted to end the series where he did, less auspiciously.

So, yes, FUNimation obviously are not a reliable source for the original story, but when all is said and done they're dubbing something that is already flawed to begin with.
