Contributing to it being off-topic doesn't help the situation at all. As for your theory, it's flawed in the sense that not just once, but both confirmed times that Gokuu uses the regular "Kaiou-ken" (when he uses it against Bejiita and again as a demonstration to Ginyu Taicho), it is shown to double his battle power (stated as doubling his battle power during the Bejiita example and shown through Ginyu's scouter readings as doubling his battle power during that example).

The "twice the Kaiou-ken" scenario I believe is a translation error, though I'd need Chibi to verify or correct me on that. I'm thinking they were just going for a "Kaiou-ken times two" or "Two fold Kaiou-ken" and was just worded incorrectly.

It was stated to double his power because he was using it to double his power by adding his own pl to himself.

Putting that aside, Kaio-ken indeed doubles the amount of output in a heartbeat (also denoted through an uncontrolled aura). As for the Goku / Ginyu matter, that's a bit of a snag for me - the scouter reads 90,000 when he begins the prolonged demonstratio (not just going about using skill, but good forethought), so that to me would mean Goku was indeed at 85,000, but it might not have worked out as such. But that fight was drastically different in comparison to what Goku foresaw, though he was quite nimble.

Why would 85,000 max out at 180,000 with a regular Kaoken?

Impossible. Even if Goku had sustained enough injury to cause his battle strength to receed to 5,000, he would be stronger than Vegeta upon using the "double Kaio-ken" if the multiplier were four-fold.

Isn't it possible that during his Ginyu fight and his fight against Vegeta, Goku was using the kaoken to double his power, but it isn't ALWAYS doubled, but rather just random amount of power is added? It would seem to make a lot more sense when King Kai told him to not go past doubling his power, because it would mean he could still use a kaoken below doubling.
