Why did he lose his power to go SSJ?

Lol wrong place to put that Gad. He lost his SSJ, because Elder Kai reconfigured his Ki so that he could access all the SSJ power without transforming. Or something along those lines. If he went SSJ, he would get no boost at all and would lose energy maintaining the useless form.

"Mystic" is awful yes.

I do like the Old Kai powerup though

Seriously though, everything past the Freeza Saga was a badly hidden plot device.

It's the same thing, Mystic = Old Kai Power up.

At least Super Saiyan 2 and 3 made sense. Goku powers up his forms ti ascend to new ones, it made sense, several days training.

Suddenly during the attack of Super Buu, Gohan finds a way to achieve power even greater than the main villain in only one day, and doesn't have to do anything?

Come on, it takes the piss a little. And people criticize AF and not this?

No it doesn't. Super Saiyan 2 was orginally the expression of Gohan's full power. Until the series went on that is.

Well it actually does kinda make sense, at least to Toriyama-sensei. Ever since the advent of Super Saiyan he'd been trying to make the story about Gohan and his super-duper hidden powers. This was the pinnacle of those powers.

I liked SSJ3, how it looked. But sadly it was a cheap add on blu tac'd onto the end of the series.

You knew someone would say this. Its because Toriyama wrote it. Its crap, but it was still written by Toriyama, and unlike Toei Toriyama and proven himself to be a decent writer. So we all cut him some slack. If GT had seen Goku get a mystic like powerup I would have thrown my TV out the window.
