The reason for implimenting Mystic Gohan was ridiculous and the works of a rushed saga. But...I still think he is cool.

Actually I think it was Toriyama's plan all along for the Buu Arc. Chibi Buu was rushed. Why have a last villain who was weaker than the others?

A. Gohan turns 'Mystic' and kills Buu with Ease. The End

B. Gohan turns 'Mystic' gets absorbed, turns into Kid Buu, Goku Spirit Bombs him. The End

Elder Kai power up is super sayain; just without the transformation. The old supreme Kai told Gohan to power up as if he were transforming into the "super thingie", so he does go super saiyan. It's the result of complete mastery over the form; instead of having to transform to unlock the dormant energy, one can simply draw it through their natural, base form, which is what's been happening to the saiyans over time, which explains the decreasing multipliers..

Except it cannot be that, as it surpasses even Super Saiyan 3 by many levels. Unless you think the energy wasted by the aura and hair colouring amounts to that much.

It has never been stated that Gohan can't go SS.

Yet he didn't against Majin Buu; and he tried going super saiyan on Shin's planet, so. . .

He became a ss to become Mystic, which al;so gave him reserve power, What I mean is that if he tried ss2 it would be ss1 instead, and that now that he has more power, he could try going ss3 and instead go ss2.
edit=at first he didn't think he'd need ss against buu, and then buu didn't give him the chance to transform.

It only takes a few seconds; and the times he was alone, hiding from Majin Buu or was standing around talking to Dende, Tien or Goku, you'd think he would've tried then. . . There's no other explanation to how Gohan gets so much power in his base form from thin air, and never, ever uses super saiyan 1-2 ever again and when he tried transforming into a super sayain, he didn't change put still powered up dramatically (and again against super Majin Buu).

It takes a little while to go SS2, and like I said, that's what he'd have to do. After the first instant of noise, yelling, and that power surging thing, Buu would show up and stop him in his tracks, and then he isn't just playing around anymore. Gohan's smart about these things, you know?
