Don't get excited, I just need two people to playtest some basic rules for a Forum Based DBZ Fighting game, which I am thinking of converting into an electronic fighting game(low quality of course...)

All the people need to do is INVENT A CHARACTER and do a post based battle, which will probably take about 5 turns(a turn is 1 post from each of the fighters) to find a winner. I will post up the rules if I can get 2 volunteers, but they don't even need to know the specifics, just the basic rules and I will take care of the maths. Don't worry, theres no roleplaying or "Punch Kick Punch Punch" "High Block Low Block Mid Block Crouch Block" or "I draw my sword, the sun gleams off of it as I slice through my opponent" nonsense that I have seen in other forum based games...

Inventing a character is simple and takes two minutes at the most, I will post the rules for inventing a character if I can find some lucky volunteers :)

Ok, back when I made this I was using a complex rule set, but now I would rather use this simple one(this one is new, so there is probably something horribly wrong with it)


Alright, first you must make a character. Your character will have a power level of 100,000 for this test. As this has been simplified, you only decide three things. The aim is to get your opponent's Health to Zero.

The Name
Whatever the hell you want to call it
The Health/Ki distribution
Just split your 100,000 power level between Health and Ki
The Special Attacks
Choose from a list, you may make 4 choices. You must choose an attack multiple times if you want to use it more than once. Wait until you read the combat rules before you choose because understandably the stats wont make sense.


So my example character looks like this

Name: Goku
Power Level: 100,000
Health: 60,000
Energy: 40,000
Special Attacks: Kamehameha, After Image, Destructo Disk, Beat Rush, Kamehameha

Here is a short list of special attacks.

Kamehameha
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 10-30%
Damage: 350%

Gallic Gun
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 10-40%
Damage: 340%

Detirmination
Type: Power Up, Passive
Effect: Increase the accuracy of Ki Attacks by 10%

Spirit Ball
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 10-30%
Damage: 300%
Effect: Accurate (+50% accuracy)

Destructo Disk
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 20%
Damage: 400%
Effect: Inaccurate(-30% accuracy)

Special Beam Cannon
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 30-50%
Damage: 600%
Effect: Inaccurate(-50% accuracy)

After Image(maximum of one choice)
Type: Defense, Passive
Cost: None
Effect: Decrease enermy Ki Attack Accuracy by 20%


Beat Rush
Type: Melee Attack
Damage: 150%

Ok, once you have made a character, the battle begins. At the start of the battle, you must focus your Ki into three areas: Attack, Defense, and Speed. What happens is, your current power level is divided by 10, and the number you get is your Power Points. You then invest these points into these three stats.

For Example

Name: Goku
Power Level: 100,000
Health: 60,000
Energy: 40,000
Special Attacks: Kamehameha, After Image, Destructo Disk, Beat Rush, Kamehameha

Power Points: 10,000
Attack: 3000
Defense: 1500 (3000)(You must invest 2 points to increase defense by 1)
Speed: 4000

Now lets say Goku is fighting his arch nemesis, Vegeta

Name: Vegeta
Power Level: 100,000
Health: 55,000
Energy: 45,000
Special Attacks: Gallic Gun,After Image,Destructo Disk,Detirmination, Gallic Gun

Power Points: 10,000
Attack: 3000
Defense: 1250 (2500)
Speed: 4500

Alright, its Round One
Both stats would be set in private, and Vegeta put more focus into speed then Goku, so because his speed is higher, he gets the choice of first turn or second turn.(big advantage) You cannot use a Ki Attack on the first turn.

Vegeta decides to initiate Melee Combat with Goku. Melee Combat is when the two characters fly at each other and start punching and kicking the crap out of each other.

The game(namely Me at the moment) would compare the two fighters speeds to see how many hits each one gets. There are 10 hits in a round of Melee Combat, and whoever is attacking gets the advantage.

Heres the maths, you dont need to read this, but you can if you want.

First, whichever character is attacking increases their speed by 25%
(Vegeta, 4500 to 5625)
Now, there are 10 hits in each round of close combat, use this formula to detirmine how many of them the attacker gets
Attacker Speed/Defender Speed=A
Ax5=B
Round B to whole number
10-B=C

B is attackers hits
C is defenders hits
Formula ends

Vegeta gets 7 hits, while Goku gets 3. The damage working is simple. Simply minus each characters defense from the enermies attack to get the damage of each hit. Vegeta's attack is 3000, and Goku's defense is 1500, so Vegeta does 7 hits at 1500 damage each for a total of 10,500 damage. Goku hits Vegeta 3 times and inflicts 5250 damage to Vegeta. Each characters Health goes down, and the power levels are recalculated., and the two characters re-invest their Power Points. Because the power levels have gone down, the number of Power Points for each character is decreased, this shows the character getting weaker as they take damage.

Goku decides to use a Kamehameha. First I must explain how energy combat works. Ok, a description of a Kamehameha is in order.

Kamehameha
Type: Energy Attack
Charge: 10-30%
Damage: 350%

The Charge is the % of your maximum Energy that you can put into the attack. And the higher the Damage, the more damage you will inflict on the opponent.

When you use a Ki Attack, you must first decide how much Ki you want to invest into it. Goku's maximum Ki is 40,000 and the Kamehameha allows him to use up to 30%. He decides to use the full 30%, and so 12000 Ki is deducted from him and put into the Kamehameha. He must now split this 12000 between the Power and Speed of the attack. Whatever he puts into power, the Damage stat percentage of that is the amount of damage the enermy will recieve if the attack hits. Whatever he puts into Speed, will detirmine the chances of the attack successfully hitting his opponent.

Goku invests 6000 in Power and 6000 in Speed. So the Kamehameha looks like this

Hit Chance: 67.5%

Formula for detirmining hit chance
Attacker puts Ki into Speed of their attack. This is A
Defender's Speed is B
A+B=C
C/2=D
D/A=E
E*100=Hit chance
Then apply additives or subtractions from special abilities.Formula ends

The attack is fired at Vegeta, who is unable to evade it and takes a direct hit! 21000-1250=19,750 damage dealt to Vegeta.

The fight continues like that(I think I have covered everything) until one character is defeated or obviously going to lose.

Forgot one thing, the special attack Beat Rush is your regular melee attack but 150% of the strength.

If you've never heard of Game Maker, its a simple game making program, that I have been using for about 7 years. I can make nearly anything that isn't 3D.

Like I said its the simple version, purely because the complex version requires you to have a hand of DBZ Battle Cards(or pieces of paper with words drawn on them), which is too much hassle. I guess I will be the opponent, as there has been no volunteers.

No, I didn't add enough to attack so I did nothing....

You just need to post where you invest your 10000 power points before I can begin my attack
