Kaioken doesn't increase someone's power exponentially. That would be much to strong...think about it this way: (Hypothetical)

Goku Base-100

Goku Kaioken x2- 10,000

Goku Kaioken x10-10,000,000,000

Goku Kaioken x20-100,000,000,000,000,000,000

I really don't think this is right. Kaioken x10 alone would rip him apart from the power...forget higher.

Kaio-ken and Kaio-ken x2 is the same thing. I believe they only mention kaio-ken x2 here -

Kaio-ken power = A Base = B

A x B = C

If the Kaio-ken was 2x and his base was 8000 -

2 x 8000 = 16,000

If the Kaio-ken was 3x and his base was 8000 -

3 x 8000 = 24,000

Random one-

If the Kaio-ken was 5x and his base was 200 -

5 x 200 = 1000

Its simple =)

Kaioken simply doubles your base ki, KKx2 is the same thing as the regular KK.

KK= Bx2

KKx2= Bx2 (^same thing)

KKx3= Bx3

KKx4= Bx4

etc.

No, no, no! Kaio-ken multiplying an additive would raise Goku's power level to preposterous levels that would completely own Vegeta; and regular kaio-ken and kaio-ken x2 being the same makes no sense. . .

Regular kaio-ken could be anything < a 2x multiplier; or apparently, in the Ginyu saga, can be anything Goku wishes.

Kaio-ken is just the name of the technique. We see from the fight with Freeza that he actually doesn't have to call anything out.

I personally believe that he shouts it as a focusing technique, to clarify mentally how strong he's going to be. Remember that at this time the Kaio-Ken was pretty damn new to him, and so I think when he started to realise he might need to go beyond simply doubling his strength, he subdivided the name further to help him focus on it. As far as I'm concerned, Kaio-Ken alone simply relates to any of them, from x2 to x20.

This is all well and good, except for the fact that the manga clearly indicates that the regular Kaiou-ken is in fact a 2x multiplier.

Because Kaio-Ken is just the overall name for the technique. But since originally he didn't think he should push himself beyond the most basic fold (2x) and that he probably wouldn't need it, he originally just called that level Kaio-Ken. Makes perfect sense to me.

Simply: We know that Vegeta's PL on Earth is about 18,000 - 18,500.

Now Lets say that Goku's on 8200.

His "kaioken" Pl is 16,400 as stated. Now we see that he cant do anything to Vegeta.

If kaioken 2x is stronger than kaioken (like 8200 + 2*8200 as some1 mentioned before), Goku would trash Vegeta, and we know that he didn't do any better than with regular kaioken.

So energetically they are the same shit, just another name.

Maybe its a dub line, though I'm not sure.
