It's even faster than instant transmission (10,000 km). That counts for something. Also, we see more than just him zipping around the Earth in one panel. The page show him streaking through the land-scape and kicking up waves on both sides (the effects we see Super Boo have when he flies to the ROSAT).

Also, 24 times would be the bare-minimum: a "couple dozen" might be 36.

Apparently you haven't been following the arguement.

The Earth is 8,000 miles in diameter.

The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. Let's say hypothetically that a jet can move at that speed.

Divide:

186,000/8,000=23.25

That means the jet would circle the Earth 23 times. Keep in mind this is per second, not per hour (mph). So it literally means the jet is moving 8,000 miles per second and would encircle the Earth 23 times in 23 seconds.

As for the panel, Gotenks said he "got so bored waiting for you [Piccolo] I took a short nap,". It barely even takes a minute to get down from Kami's look-out (Which is several hundred feet above Karin's and that is hundreds of feet above the Earth). It was in 24 seconds (Or less).

This is the bit I don't get. Why would it take 23 seconds for him to travel round the world 23 times, when you just said that light can travel around the world 23 times in just one second? That would imply that Gotenks is moving at only 1/23 the speed of light, not faster than it.

Actually, in some issues, like issues 1, 3, 4, 8, 9 (?), 10, 11, 12, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25, and 26 of DBZ, that's way too long. So it really varies.

I guess it's possible Gotenks is slightly slower. It still was less than a minute considering it takes a miniscule amount of time to climb up to the lookout.

No, it doesn't "depend". No firearm ever made can propel a bullet even into percentages of the speed of light.

A fast bullet (most are much slower) travels at about 1,500 FEET per second. Light travels at 186,000 MILES per second.

That means light travels over 700 thousand times the speed of the fastest bullet.

Just because something moves faster than a person can see, doesn't mean it's moving anywhere even close to the speed of light.

Wow that's great. But I think a lot of people could tell that the very important Z-fighters, or VIZF (I know I'm not funny, but couldja give it a chance??) closer to the end of the series (even in the Cell saga) can go as fast as light.
Well everytime a big noise happens (a sonic boom) they're going fast as sound. That not fast enough for ya, then messure you're distance from the TV and do the math and figure out, based on if the character is invisable, they are going as fast as light.
