Post count FTW?
Seriously though, I'm pretty sure it was Roshi's Kamehameha. I don't know if we'd seen energy attacks at all before this point, and I'm fairly certain that this is when ki was mentioned, due to the attack relying on the latent ki of the body. |

I agree with Darkprince. I seem to recall that the first time it was mentioned was when Roshi introduced the Kamehameha in chapter 12 or 13 of the manga. Yamcha explains to Puar how the fabled technique at that time (the Kamehameha) was stated to work, explaining that the user gathers their latent energy into their hands, and unleashes all of it in a single burst.

Revival.
Since I started re-reading early Dragonball I was able to find the quote for myself (even though it was paraphrased by SP) "Concentrating all his dormant energy...into a single focused blast!!". Rather than create a new topic I'll just ask it here. Its clear that Yamcha is referring to Chi but, my question is, has Chi been referred to as "energy" after this and when was the term Chi first used? The "life force?" that Cell refers to when draining people, is that just another way of saying Chi or is it something different? Has that been used elsewhere in the Manga?

Ki is the comprehensive power an individual has, like Battle Power, life force, and the like. Used primarily with a nuance that indicates Battle Power, you could say that the higher a person's ki is, the stronger they are. A boosted ki emanates from the body like an aura. It cannot be seen by eyes, but proficient warriors are able feel it.

Gohan told Videl that chi was "Latent Power". They often just say "I'm out of energy" in a general sense and become fatigued when they run out.

Dragonball volume 14:
Goku: "I almost can't sense your ki..." There's probably something before this. I know Goku said he could "feel" the people in the houses at Oolong's terrorized town, but "chi"/"ki" was never mentioned. |

Quote:
She didn't know what it was and Gohan said "Oh, you guys would call it 'Latent-power'...". We know it's a life-force because they're dead without it, and the futher it diminishes the more they lag in fights.

![]() You scared the dog-shit out of me... One last thing: There are "good", "evil", and "Regular" chi. When Kuririn was about to throw the Genki-Dama, Kaio told him to "feel the evil chi". Nail further emphasizes this when he tells everyone (about the Ginyu Force) "He [Vegeta] may be telling the truth. I do sense five evil powers,".
