He was the only character in the entire Series that was never killed. He was also one of the weakest but he did fight with some villians so did he deserve to be called the World martial arts champion.

He is called the World Martial Arts Champion because he won the last World Tournament so yeah since he won he deserves to be called it even if there are a dozen or so more characters that are stronger.

I think Hercule is a hero and I agree with Piccolo when he said to Videl at the lookout:
"Your father is a hero. He took it upon himself to journey to Majin Buu's home and fight him on his own ground. For reasons we don't know Mr Satan did not fight Majin Buu, instead the two forged a friendship. Your father is the only human being Majin Buu seems to appreciate. Although other circumstances brought it to a hault, your father nearly made Buu adopt a life of peace. He may have transformed into this evil entity now but Buu still has a potent memory of a man and the kindness he showed a monster. Your dad will never have the powers that we do Videl but his compassion exceeds any victory he could achieve in the ring." So I think he has Piccolo's vote for a hero and I agree even if he does steal the glory. He's still funny and he did almost save the earth.

Who is Hercule? He sounds an awful lot like the "Mr. Satan" character but the names are completely different. Certainly Videl didn't have two fathers?

But yes, FUNimation chose to use "Hercule" instead of "Mister Satan" for the edited TV Dub, but the uncut DVD dub and original Japanese version leave "Mr. Satan" intact. Viz kind've screwed up on this too, which is more rare for them. Someone higher up in the company must've deemed they needed something besides Mr. Satan, so when they introduce him, they call him "Hercule, the wrestler formerly known as Mr. Satan" and then proceed to call him Hercule throughout the rest of the Manga. This is very irritating because it is not accurate at all.

Hmm i really have mixed opinions about this. Hercule deserves some for helping Goku charge up the Spirit Bomb to kill Kid Buu and some too for standing up to Bebi Vegeta. But on the other side he took all of the credit for killing Cell

Yeah, why not? He did convince the people to lend their energy for the Spirit Bomb, thereby saving the world. Besides, he is a funny character. It lightens up the DBZ atmosphere. Without him, who would be the comic relief character. By the way, how did they came up with the name Hercule? Does it mean something. It just resembles Hercules.

Him taking credit for killing Seru isn't that bad really, as he did indirectly help to trigger Seru's eventual demise (throwing Juurokugou's head close enough to Gohan so it would in turn be destroyed after giving Gohan a motivational speech, thus resulting in him eventually reaching Ssj2), though I agree that it was somewhat annoying that he took credit in the sense of him being the one that threw the final blow. You can tell though he was initially added to be a rather unlikeable character, so this all makes sense.
As time progressed, what he did easily outweighed that minor issue, as he was able to introduce enough good into Ma-jin Buu to affect him completely (which managed in turn to help buy Gokuu time to gather ki for the Chou Genki Dama) and managed to assist in gathering the ki necessary for Gokuu to complete it. One minor indiscretion regarding taking credit for Seru's defeat is surely overshadowed by what good he did in the following saga.

Yes and no. He did help the Z Fighters immeasurably through his crazy stunts and without him they wouldn't have defeated Cell or Buu. But then again he wasn't the one fighting the villains so I say he gets half credit.
