Piccolo is coolest. He doesn't always overestimate his powers and he is realistic. And withou him, Gohan would be a whimp and that means goodbye to Chou Gohan.

Answer:
When the Red ribbon army attacked Kamesennin's house he was actually scared of the army. You don't see him eradicate it. It is just like LSJ Nappa he had been birded. It was actually he who defeated them all.

Yeah I like Gohan as well. But I like Vegeta more. That's one of the biggest reasons I like DBZ more than DB. Because in DB no Vegeta or Gohan.

Even without Gohan or Vegeta, DB still has some pretty badass villians. Tao Pai Pai and Ma Jr. are two of the best classical villians that you'll ever get to see, they just can't beat Vegeta or Cell in terms of strength and attitude.
