the best way to tell the difference is by the aura ssj 1 is like a light flame but ssj2 is more like a furnace flame.super saiyan 1s can have electricity aswell infact none super saiyans can have electricity like nappa and vegeta when they first came to earth.

SSJ1's never have electricity. The ONLY non-ssj2, ssj3, ssj4 saiyan to have electricity was Nappa on earth

in the trunks special gohan was only super saiyan and he had electricity around him

that was the trunks special. in the manga nappa was the only sayian to have electricity that wasnt ssj2+

Super saiyan has shorter hair than S.S2.And S.S2 has electricity around it's body.Thats whats different.

Yes SSJ2's hair and muscles are much bulkier. But at times SSJ has lighting but ONLY when the SSJ is powering up.And sometimes there isn't even lighting then.

SSJ2 have got spikier hair and electricity in their aura. But I have to say it is pretty hard to tell the difference. The only way you could see it well was when SSJ kid Gohan transformed into SSJ2 Kid Gohan during the cell games saga and you do not always see the electricity when in SSJ2 stage. During the SSJ2 Goku and Majin Vegeta fight there wasn't electricity around them for all the time but still it was very often shown.

You can really see the difference when Goku goes SSJ3 for the first time against Buu and when he displayed it to Goten and Trunks. First he went SSJ then SSJ2 and finally SSJ3. In the switch from SSJ to SSJ2 you could really see the difference.

Oh and Mystic Gohan also had electricity when he first powered up after Elder Kai's ritual on the planet of the kai's.

Heres my observation.
It seems that the electricity does not last while in ssj2. SSJ1 does not have electricity at all (except the nappa thing mentioned above). I find Electricity starts when they begin to powerup and hit the SSJ2 mark, once they are done the power up the electricity slowly disipates so it doesn't last for too long after the powerup. It is most visible when Young Gohan first reaches this stage. You see the electricity everywhere around him and thats how you know hes ascended. It doesn't last long, as soon after that when he starts pummeling cell his aura stays but electricity gone.
Am i kind of right? Maybe yes maybe no?

Yeah I think you r right. You say the same on some points as I did and I have to agree with you on the SSJ2 electricity thing. During the SSJ2 Goku and SSJ2 Majin Vegeta fight you often see them fight without the electricity. But at some points when they stop and talk for a minute and when they then continue to power up, than the electricity is displayed again. So what you said made a good point.
