I assume that you are talking about the Japanese numbered episode 50 in which Goku's ship is caught in the gravitational field of a star. If that's the episode you are wondering about, then yes, that part is entierly filler. In the manga Goku's ship never ran into any problems.

As Sephiroth answered, yes that particular episode (if you are referring to the japanese anime) is a filler episode. For future questions of this type though, I recommend not just giving an episode number, but also a title and perhaps a brief description, since as you may or may not know, the Japanese anime episode 50 is not necessarily the same as the Funimation (or Ocean) version, due to scenes deleted for censorship and time restraints.
