I heard something about Toriyama-san & was wondering if it were true.....is it true that Toriyama's favorite character is Future Trunks?

No. He said quite some time ago that his "favourite"-well, the character he wanted to focus on the most-was Gohan. Don't know if that's still the case though.

Toriyama-sensei has stated, though not on many an interview, that some of his favorite characters are Piccolo, Gohan, and Mirai Trunks (though not the present Trunks... possibly a length away from his not-so-extolled but ported character, in my recollection), no less. So, I'd have to say yes nonwithstanding, (and as a rule of thumb, I mean no offense or derision, but I recollect you posting this to MFG v3.0... it's okay, though).

Well, you notice how he continually tries to make Gohan the main character of Dragonball even though the fans wanted Goku?
Gohan is the one to shift the tide against Raditz, Gohan is the character who rebounds the Genki Dama and nearly kills Vegeta with it, Gohan is the one to ascend Goku during the Cell arc and defeat Cell, Gohan is the one to Train future trunks to Become a Super Saiyan, Gohan is the strongest single character by the end of Dragonball Z. Toriyama tried SOOOO hard to make the fans like Gohan more so that he could officially make him the main character, but the fans insited on Goku.
I also heard that Toriyama likes Bardock, even though he's only in two panels of the Manga. The Bardock movie is his favorite DBZ movie.

He likes Piccolo??? Cool Piccolo's my favorite.
Next about him trying to make Gohan the main character it seems very possable he was trying to have the son surpass the dad (which he did in power) but for some reason they liked Goku and this made the every so crappy Kid buu saga,

Meh...Gohan did some stuff early on...but Goku was always the hero.....sure on Namek it focused around Gohan & Vegeta while Goku was making the trip...& then when Goku was healing the series revolved around everyone else, but it was always up to Goku to save everyone.....up until Goku gives up against Cell, the series still has Goku as the hero. People just cannot get into a whiney child after coming off of the fearless Goku child.

Firstly, Gohan was only "whiney" when he was captured by Piccolo, and he was a four year old who was captured and yelled at by a demon, with his father dead, and he was forced to survive in the volatile wilderness, if you were 4, you'd be crying rivers. After that, he was never whiney. Secondly, Gohan surpassed Goku twice (also, when he did, he could probroly kill him in a blow, as I mentioned before) in the Cell and Buu Saga. Lastly, if the story "always focused around Goku" then characters like Future Trunks would be extremly minor (or nonexist), he'd be so minor, that I highly doubt that you'd have him in your avator. Sorry if I offended you, but I rather liked Gohan, and you insulted him to no end.

Goku was never a whiney child, he was brought up as a warrior...yet even after the Piccolo training Gohan had cowardess at times, unless he was super pissed off. I'd rather take the fandom route & form my OWN opinions about Gohan rather than just like Gohan simply because Toriyama intended to make him the main character. The only Gohan's I really like are Future Gohan, SSJ2 Cell Games Gohan, & Mystic Gohan. Any other times he is either whiney or dorky (i.e. Saiyaman), sure it's great for laughs, but it doesn't make me like him as a Top fav. character.
Anyway, the point may not always focuing on what Goku is doing at that moment, but it is always about, just wait till Goku arrives or until he gets better...then Goku is thrown into the spotlight again.
Like the Saiyans....we watch the Z-fightters get their butts kicked, Goku arrives, big awesome Goku fight insues
Namek Saga, it's all focused around Gohan, Krillin, & Vegeta, which I why I really like the early Namek Saga.....alot of trickey going on, getting dragonballs, hiding em. But all this while Goku is on his way...then Goku arrives, kicks some tail, gets injured....focus now goes on Gohan, Vegeta, & Piccolo. Goku gets better, big fight insues, SSJ, bigger fight insues.
Android Saga....Goku fights, limelight is on Goku, heart virus....limelight is now on Vegeta...then it switches to Piccolo, then Vegeta & Trunks exit the Time Chamber, it's back to Vegeta, then Trunks. Goku & Gohan exit, spotlight is on Goku....then it goes to Gohan.
Buu era.....starts out all about Gohan....switches to Goku, Gohan, & Vegeta....then the Goku/Vegeta rivalry, then it goes on Vegeta for a bit.....then SSJ3 Goku....then Fusion & Buu's terror & destruction....Hercule for a bit, Gotenks, then Gohan, Vegito, & finally back to Goku again where a big fight insues.
That's what's so great about DBZ....everyone gets their chance in the spotlight, but except for the Cell era, in the end, Goku has the big deciding fight.

I didn't like Gohan as a character... except when he turned a Super Saiya-jinn 2. Then

Mystic Gohan wasn't as good... SS2 Gohan dominated though (character-wise)

Yet another friendly reminder to come to grips with... don't onerously and severely beat this thread (and one to the other, for that matter) to the degree of it relapsing into the "OMG Goku >>>> Gohan cuz gohan was wh1ney & goku tis lwys teh best!111" quarrel.
