DB/Z/GT best theme songs- your experience
I have a theory that half the people who watched DBGT in English rated it so low because subconsciously the crappy song had a negative impact. I don't rate DBGT better than DBZ or DB but I don't think its necessarily as shitty as you guys make it to be.
I grew up watching DB/Z half in English and half in italian, i never watched GT in English so maybe I'd share the same opinion as you guys if I watched the English song. Anyways I took the liberty of posting the songs I'm familiar with. Post DB/Z/GT songs from your experiences and discuss. Dragon ball opening Japanese was the best IMO.

I don't mind the Italian themes in question or any of the Japanese themes. My only qualm with Rock the Dragon is its lyrics, and FUNimation's "Namek Saga" theme is good but a bit too upbeat for me. We Gotta Power would be my favorite, though.
If anything, GT killed GT with whim, regardless of whatever audio track anyone heard it in (but I suppose it is somewhat a matter of opinion). Yes, the dub made it that much worse, but that does not bely GT's failure on a epic level (as consensus would have it; it, again, does range in opinion and there are some who laud it for what it is... to each his own).

We Gotta Power makes it seem like a totally different anime. It makes it seem like the Great Saiyaman saga but for the whole anime, Gohan being a superhero who has a bunch of family and friends. Wierd.

It's something hard to decide as half of the songs are especially composed for GBZGT, while the other half is not. I really can't choose...
My shortlist would be: Dragonball Opening The original dragonball opening(japanese), mainly because the music really illustrates the story and the lyrics are really meaningful (byt the English dub one, not the FUNimation one but the other one talking about Goku is just a bit lame). DBZ ending theme - We were Angels This one mainly because it illustrates everything in the series: sadness, happiness, comical sides, despair, hope, will, and so on. DBGT Dan Dan Kokoro Why? It's the hit song of the former Japanese rock band - "Field of View". Although it doesn't fit the actual story plot of GT well(as well as the clips going with the song is a bit bad), it nevertheless illustrates an important point of DBZGT and the song is just classic. DBZ - We Gotta Power So dedicated to DBZ, classic. If it has to be one, then, I would go with the original dragonball opening or Dan Dan Kokoro, probably Dan dan Kokoro. :) |

And when did Rock the Dragon have varied lyrics? It also repeats the same thing.
And if I'm truthful, the Ocean dub is far more musical in it's layers, harmonies and context than the Rock the Dragon opening was.

Well, everybody is entitled to their own opinion and that's fine. I like the Ocean Dub because it has a good melody and it also happens to be the one that I grew up listening to. Rock the Dragon is good too, sounds very aggressive and it symbolizes the tone of Dragonball Z.
