Question Where do the movies fit into the timeline?

Pretty much what the title says.

Can anyone please tell me where all the DBZ movies fit in the story? (Or where they should be, considering none of them really do "fit")

Default Re: Where do the movies fit into the timeline?

Movie 1- Just before the start of DBZ.

Movie 2- Some time after Nappa and Vegeta arrive

Movie 3- Just after Gohan unlocks his potential. Goku is in mid-training.

Movie 4- Just after the Ginyu Force fight

Movie 5- Somewhere between Namek's destruction and the Trunks saga

Movie 6- During the three years training for the androids

Movie 7- A bit before the fight with 17 and 18

Movie 9- Just after Cell's defeat, and also after Trunks frees the future.

Movie 11- After the buu saga maybe

Movie 12- Just after fusion is introduced, but also before Super Buu is born.

Movie 13- Just before the final 10 year time skip of the series, and after Kid Buu's defeat.

I would disagree with Remixremix on Movies 4 and 11. I have Movie 4 more around the time-point where Goku fights Freeza for the first time, since he did turn Super Saiyan in the movie. Movie 11 is around the time where the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai is finished up...in the Babidi Arc. I have Movie 8 taking place in the 10-day training period before the Cell Game because of Piccolo's power in the movie. And I have Movie 10 taking place around the prep time for the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai, post-Saiyaman Arc.

Well, yes he did. You see, the movie makers of that featured film said he did, and made him do so in an attempt to mimic what they thought Akira Toriyama's final vision of the actual SSj state would look like. That's why you get that "Giji" Super Saiyan term flying around the internet. People try and make it a different form or something when it's actually just SSj.

Heh, funny how TOEI's "Super Sayajin" is a Kaioken with a yellow aura in appearance.

Thank fucking god Toriyama designed nearly all the filler, movie and GT villians. Imagine what the character designs would be like if TOEI designed them.....

TOEI PRESENTS:

Cooler! From The Incredible Mightiest vs Mightiest (5th in the DBZ movie series)!

Janemba! From Fusion Reborn!! Goku and Vegeta (12th in the DBZ movie series)!

And, we saved the best for last.....

BROLLY!!! From Burn Up!! A Close, Intense, Super-Fierce Battle (12th in the DBZ movie series)!

On the plus side, I bet there wouldn't be as much annoying Broly, Cooler or Janemba fans if they looked like that.

Default Re: Where do the movies fit into the timeline?

They don't fit into the time line, the movies are simply intended as alternate scenarios. For example, movie 1 is supposed to be if Goku didn't die against Raditz. You can tell simply because it's impossible for most of the movies to fit seamlessly into the timelines when there are characters alive when they should be dead.

Movie 1, Goku should've been dead.
Movies 2,3, and 4, Piccolo and the rest of the gang should've been dead.
Movie 5, Goku would still be out in space somewhere.
Movie 6, Vegeta was a SSj and no one found out that he was one until the 3 year skip.
Movie 7, they would've been pre-occupied with the androids in the series
Movie 8, They would've been pre-occupied with Cell.
Movie 9, Trunks would've already returned to the Future.
Movie 10, They would've been busy training for the Tenkaichi budokai, and not collecting DragonBalls
Movie 11, they would've been either at the TB or preoccupied with Babibi and Dabura
Movie 12, Gohan should be dead and have his ultimate power up
Movie 13 is supposed to explain how Trunks got his sword, the plothole is that they used the Dragon Balls to open the Box with Tapion in it, which lead to Trunks getting his sword. Trunks in the future couldn't use the Dragon Balls to do that because they no longer existed, therefore whatever sword that Trunks has in the future isn't the same one that he got from Tapion. Also there's the fact that Hirudegarn presented a challenge for the present timeline Z warriors, and Trunks in the future apparently beat Hirudegarn who was much stronger than the androids, which doesn't make any sense.

But the Daizenshuu does lable it as something different. It wasn't originally intended as something different, but it was later considered "false" or Gigi.

Just to clarify, when the movies "fit" into the timeline, they fit according to the basis of the genre of the featured film.

Well, it still has the same meaning for me if Goku was originally intended as Super Saiyan in Movie 4.

The movies and the story continuity do not exist in the same universe. The end.

Although Goku says when fighting Janemba that the only other time he was pushed to use SSJ3 was against Buu. I agree it still doesn't fit though. More confusing then anything.

90% of DragonBall fans detest DragonBall GT. If you're one of the 10% of fans who actually like GT, post this in your signature.

A direct quote from Akira Toriyama himself on DragonBall GT: "I enjoyed the show, felt it captured the "Dragonball soul", and was pleased with the conclusion." - Haha, bitches!

Myself I had a vision for where movie 8 and 10 and 11 were placed

8- just before the cell games.

10- before budokai since gohan and videl were hinted to be dating

11- during budokai or after since the mention of 18 throwing her fight against mr. satan.
