I just wanna know what the hell happened to the Saiyans tails after awhile. Is it ever mentioned or talked about?

Gohan has a tail

Goten has no tail
Trunks has no tail
Bulla has no tail
Pan has no tail


One half breed has a tail, and the others are immune? lol. Pan is 1/3 Saiyan, but you get what I'm saying. I'm not complaining, it's just weird. Thoughts or answers.....

once the Saiyan achieves Super Saiyan prime, the tail is gone.

I also thought about that and posted a thread about it.

When a saiyan reaches a certain adult size, their tails do not grow back. I dunno about Trunks and Goten....maybe they were removed because Bulma and Chi-chi didn't want it or something?

Gohan's tail was cut not completely removed, so it grew back.

Vegeta's was also cut off, but he was already too old.


Also the tail does not go away when one becomes a SSJ. Remember Vegeta in Ginyu saga saying that the first and only SSJ could only acheive it using his transformed state and in the flashback, it had a tail....

Simple answer, Toriyama forgot to draw the tails.

We could all assume an in-universe answer like Chi Chi and Bulma had them removed.

Toriyama didnt need them for the story anymore. First Oozaru was the strongest of the saiyans. Then the Super Saiyan Jin. Plus its more easier to draw a Super Saiyan than an Oozaru. I hate it when people need to find answers for things that dont need an answer. But i find it interesting in what you guys come up with. And i understand that you guys are just wondering. ^. -

I don't know why the others don't have tails, but like you guys had said, it might be that Bulma and Chichi removed them early on. Also, tails don't grow back after reaching maturity. They would only grow back in childhood, since the body has yet to reach its final stage. This is why Goku's tail grows back twice (I believe) in Dragonball, but doesn't grow back after.

Oh, and when does Gohan's tail get removed? It was on Earth, right? When Vegeta fought Oozaru Gohan, who cut off Gohan's tail?

Vegeta did with an Energy Disc. But if "the tails dont grow back after reaching maturity" thing is true, then why didnt Son Gohans tail grow back? What was he somewhere around 4 right?

My take on the sayin tails has always been that they can only be removed permanently through surgery. The bulk of my proof comes from back in Dragonball when Goku tell the gang that Kami surgically removed his tail ("to restore the moon") After this goku's tail no longer grows back. Other facts that support my theory are:

1) After the Goku learns what a tail's main function is, he and gohan are in a hospital. I believe that the "roots" of gohan's tail are surgically removed here.

2) Vegeta when asked about his tail by the doctor on planet Freiza tells him that "...It will grow back."

These three facts are all the solid proof for my theory that I can give. My idea about what happened to each of the sayin's tails after this is:

Goku - removed by Kami

Gohan - removed by surgical doctor after sayin saga

Vegeta - as not enough time passes during the namak saga, Vegeta's tail does not grow back. It can be assumed that Bulma had him have it removed during the time skip.

Trunks - removed at birth

Goten - removed at birth

Bra - removed at birth


Pan - either not enough sayin blood to grow tail or removed at birth

I think the tail could have been only a trait to full blood Saiyans and part saiyans like say 1/2 saiyan and 1/2 human. Goten were only 1/4 saiyan maybe the tail trait isnt passed there and pan and bra were a even smaller fraction of saiyan. As for trunks he probably had his tail removed.

It doesn't matter if Chi Chi and Bulma had them removed or not, there was no way for them to transform since Piccolo destroyed the moon in the Saiyan Saga. It was never brought back. Also there's no logic in teaching them the faux moonlight technique.

huh? Where the hell did you get that from?

Vegeta was in space for a year before Goku arrived back on Earth. It would've grown back in that time.

That is actually only speculation since we don't know when Vegeta ascended into Super Saiyan or when Bulma got pregnant.
