Dragonball - the 22nd Budokai Saga arc. From an aesthetics standpoint it's commanding, the battle with Goku and Tenshinhan is rather good, and it's one of the highlights of the height of Dragonball in my eyes.

Dragonball Z - A toss-up between the Cell and Freeza Saga.
Advancement is something that is, sadly, detested in my observations. "More Goku" in the abhorrance and chagrin of fans is something that dejected me in the Boo Saga Arc. As I've said, I liked Cell as a symbolic, less risible threat, and I liked that the mantle was passed down, as well as Vegeta being immensely changed as a character but not being debilitated at all. At least he became a tad more humble, but not with such alacritous, arrogant, prideful exploits. Power has a creativity of its own, but the evolution Vegeta goes through as a character is even more powerful to me.

Goku's sacrifice was noble and I liked that he instilled hope in a way that made him seem alive but not without merging and becoming one with the other world, almost, in a more metaphorical and "transcendental" way; his character meant, to me, that we need to be "blind" to function and not nitpick so excessively rather than to see past what we don't see, or so to speak.

As for the Freeza Saga Arc, it was rather epic and I couldn't think of a better ending when I first experienced it.

But that aside, to me, the later fights just became less about drama, that drama that was encased without "gumption" in all the appeasing explosions and prodigious scale. The battles seemed to be more about ideas and power and less about soul, spirit, and adventure. I was never a fan of Boo and the ending feels like one rushed debacle.

Dragonball GT - No comment.

From DBZ, the Frieza saga is byfar the best. In GT, the Baby saga is the only arc that's actually not as painful to watch. The fights were cool but the entire Goku as a kid thing took a lot out of GT's potential.

DBZ - Frieza Saga

DBGT - Baby Saga

It's because the Boo Saga Arc felt rather rushed and impotent in comparison to the rest of the series. Boo feeling more comedic than imposing (in a flat way nonwithstanding) didn't help, nor did Vegeta being as immature as to "sell his soul" and have lucidly pulsating veins of his own volition just to equal out Son Goku, being a slave to his will at that point, and gumption overriding most of his flaws in character. Nor did the rushed ending or the "Super Saiyan Bargain Sale". Dabra felt like a pale attempt at being someone between Cell (and his somewhat nihilism-qualifying demeanor, but still very sinister) and yet another throwaway, and Kaioshin could have been just as weak as Kaiosama without his overly jesting tones as a "God" figure in order to merge the best of both worlds.

But that's just me. To each his own.
