Canon answer:

Gohan's the only one who fought him. Goku just showed up and sliced him from behind with an energy disc; there was no actual fight.

Non-canon answer:

Goku fought a better fight. He took far, far less of damage than Gohan did. In fact, Goku really didn't get damaged at all.

That is because in my opinion Goku was trying to avoid Majin Buu, where Gohan was trying to fight him.
