Have you thought about the fact that he underestimated Gohan???
So maybe he thought Gohan was alsmost dead, but gohan was saving his energy so when he recieved an attack like that it wouldn't kill him.

I don't understand? Even if he did, Vegeta was still up and talkin, yet he gained power to rival Freeza's first form; while Gohan was damaged enough to the point where he couldn't move.

Regardless of fighting experience, Gohan's damage was far greater than Bejiita's.
Even if Gohan "saved" his energy, he would have been in better condition than he currently was. |

He told him to power-up like he was going SSJ, which he did. Goku didn't even believe it was possible to do such thing. So, it doesn't have to be a direct statement, because the actions prove everything.

Not to be a dick but isn't that the same as any other power up? You probably won't get what I'm saying cause some things are harder to explain through a keyboard. What I'm trying to say is for instance when Goku goes SSJ4, he goes SSJ, he powers up..... but he obviously pushes himself to his limits as Gohan pushed his own limits. I just think, and because it doesn't say anything anywhere, that if he didn't use all of his strength then he'd be able to go SSJ.

Uh, yeah, it is. The point is that he unleashed his power like he was going SSJ, and there's no change on the outside. Therefore, he can't turn SSJ. Any crap that GT exibits is irrelevant.
