I always thought it would be neat if someone could channel chi into weapons (sort of like charging a kamehameha) so that they could have a lot more power than if they were just swinging it.

Exactly. Maybe it wouldn't have even broken against #18 (well, I doubt that, but if he had been channeling a lot of chi into it, I bet it could have at least bruised her instead of outright breaking.)

He would have to use his time machene to another timeline in the future of that time to even get it. Because if he did that to that timeline, he would throw it out of balance.
