Maybe, but not by that much. Gohan was fighting SSJ Broly in base, If he was that far outclassed then he would have transformed sooner.

That's what I kind think. Gohan felt Broly's SSJ power before he even arrived, and said it was an "incredible chi."

If Gohan thought he was that powerful, though, he would've outright powered-up. Instead, he battles with him evenly to a certain extent.

There is no maybe about it. Everyone knows Base Gohan, especially after growing around 30% weaker, could not match SSj Broly [Movie 10] in any possible way. In Movie 8, SSj Vegeta [Post-RoSaT] kicks a weaker SSj Broly in the neck, causing no effect whatsoever. So if SSj Vegeta can't even budge Broly there, how's a Base Gohan [weakened over the seven-year period] gonna be equal to a stronger Super Saiyan Broly? It's just not possible. This is why Broly was torying with Gohan. As said, Broly threw a ki blast right at Gohan and he flinched like he was gonna die, but Broly pulled it held it back. If Gohan was any kind of match for SSj Broly, he would've nailed it right through him. But he didn't, signifying he was holding back effort. He was toying around with Gohan.

Okay. That still doesn't explain why Gohan would battle him in his base if he's that powerful. Sure, he attacked Gohan first, but he still fought him back, and didn't look to be at that much of a disadvantage. Besides, his fireball didn't even damage Gohan, while it damaged everyone else.

I really have no clue why Gohan didn't transform upon fighting SSj Broly. But the same case can be called upon from Movie 4, where Goku fights Slug [prime]. Goku could sense his vastly superior power, but still did not attempt to use Kaioken until after he got himself annihilated for a while. That's why I would just say it's for the sake of the plot.

The reason why I think Gohan wasn't injured when Broly's ki-orb struck his shield was because he had not lost as much power as Goten and Trunks...and Videl's gonna get shell-shocked anyway. Plus I believe the shield maker, since he himself is generating the shield, is more protected because of the flow of ki coming out from his body.

I never really understood the moment regarding the barrier, though? Your explanation makes sense, but it looked like a pretty effective one, and should've shielded everyone. They were all behind Gohan, which is why I believe he would take most of the damage anyway. We've seen that trick only used for a couple seconds so maybe he the explosion did the most damage to everyone because they weren't ready, or on-guard for the attack like Gohan, who dodged the last bit of the attack.

He may have taken the brunt of the blast, but apparently it didn't damage him to anything of the same extent as the others anyway.

Theres 3 reasons I can think of for why he didn't transform:

1. The movies seemed to usually like depicting Broly as cocky and hardly having to try against his opponents. We don't see many times where it looks like hes giving it everything he has at all, hes always got that evil laugh and confident smile (see my avi/sig). If Gohan became a SSJ right off the bat, then SSJ Broly would've had to try harder beating him. Therefore, being more serious.

2. They just wanted it to be more epic and have him transform later on like the rest of the Saiyans in the movies. Due to rage since his friends/family were dying.

3. Gohan became a moron after too much studying and hardly any training.

Nobody in movies in has common sense. EXAMPLES: Killer behind the door. Girl walks to the door. Don't open the door. Girl opens door. Girl dies.

If Gohan doesn't go SSj right off the bat then there's a chance he'll get killed almost instantly. He's lucky actually that Broly held back. Common sense would say to transform into Super Saiyan, natural instinct, yet he does not. But yes, I agree that the makers of the film held him back for the sake of the plot, because I just don't believe he wouldn't transform otherwise.
