Japanese people don't associate manga and anime together, so you can't simply state it on those grounds, clearly because if a Japanese viewer or Akira Toriyama himself saw those words, they would simply would just disagree and then tell you not to associate the manga and anime together.

Manga is like books to the Japanese people, but they don't associate manga and anime together, because it hurts their big anime and manga making capitalistic society. In short words Filler = Bad Marketting. Maybe that is why it takes so long for anime to reach Europe and America. Well the United States is more open to anime, because they are capitalistic tycoons, so they wouldn't have that much of a time elapse compare to Europe on gaining more and more anime material. But still it is like 5 years for any new manga or anime to reach across the Pacific.

Obviously there was filler, but if you add up the time of this fight after Frieza gives the 5 minute mark, the fight itself goes on for longer than 5 minutes. Like I said, there is filler, but Legacy and I and apparently many others agree that they were fighting at an accelerated rate of speed and so they would be able to do more things in a shorter period of time. That just makes sense.

But even the actual fighting adds up to more than five minutes. Thus, it was decelerated for our viewing. I'm sorry, but filler just doesn't account for the whole answer.

What do you mean by "the actual fighting adds up to more than five minutes"? How could you possibly know that? I'm in support with what Chibi Mystic Gohan said. The fight seemed pretty long because of the dialogue between Kaiousama and Kamisama. It was never stated that the planet survived for longer than the five minutes that Freeza stated, so there's no reason to think that the fight was "prolonged" in any way.

Filler doesn't count to any logical answer, unless you were comparing the anime to the manga. But that should only be done in a manga to anime comparison thread.

The fight lasted exactly 5 minutes. Our viewing of the fight lasted longer. Why? Because, as you guys seem to be repeating but not hearing, THERE IS FILLER. However! The question was why did it take so long in the show if there was only five minutes left. The answer is not just filler as so many of you like to lean on. It is also because Goku and frieza fought at a great speed and so in order for us to see the amount of fighting they did within the actual five minutes, it was slowed down for us. I don't even see why this is an argument. I'm not even really dissagreeing with you. I'm just saying there is more to it than just filler.

I was under the impression that people were calling the dialouge filler. Thus, I was showing you that I agree that the dialouge made it seem longer. Im not arguing that. Your attitude isn't needed.

And I didnt say the fight was prolonged. I said it was exactly 5 minutes, but it was just slowed down so we could see all of it. It still only lasted 5 minutes.

See, it seems we dont dissagree at all. SO why the hostility?

The dialogue wasn't even filler (but, of course, I'm sure there were specific parts of the anime dialogue that wasn't in the manga). Also, no one's getting an attitude. Where'd you get that idea?

I guess I misunderstood the tone of your text... text is funny like that .

Anyways, irreguardless, i agree that the dialogue made it seem longer. I am not disputing that. Legacy and I are just saying that the deceleration of Goku and Frieza's speed for viewing purposes also made it seem longer than 5 minutes. But it WAS 5 minutes. So I guess this little porblem is solved then?

In the Anime, when characters are going insanely fast, they jsut show little air bursts and we can't see the characters. They don't decelerrate it for "viewing" purposes. I highly doubt that much thought was put into it on Toei Animations part.

Well in that case, except for the few times they have "little air bursts," they don't move much faster than normal humans... doesn't really seem to add up. I don't even see why this is being questioned... It's not that a big of a deal or that far fetched to accept...

i remember freeza saying, ok this planet is a tough old bird, it's laster longer then i thought but there is no way it will last another 4 minutes.

so i think namek lasted for 9 minutes after being detonated.
