I've been reading a lot of comments on other threads.

Simply make it an alternate time-line that splits off at the end of Dragonball Z. Sounds a lot better.

Gohan is at his prime, a chemist that could only work as a deus ex machina (plot device.)
Try focusing on Goten and Trunks, they were teens in the last chapters.
You could threw in Gohan to defeat a villain, and lose to anotherone. Which Goten and trunks will have to defeat.

Uub could be a great character. He's one we know next to nothing about, and have the greatest connection to magic throughout the series.

You don't bring in characters because they're cool/you like them. That's why Toei did, and not even the fans of Goku liked it.
Let him stay dead. Bring in new characters, be creative.

Considering how Ssj3 consumes a lot of energy, no. Even if you start off at your prime state you will soon have used up all your powers and power down.
That's what was good about the Ssj4 stage. It seemed more neutral, more stable.

A rogue super saiyan like Goten would be a good way to start out a new fanfic. Gohan might be mystic but would he be willing to stop his brother and Trunks his best friend. Goten could blame himself for being weak as the reason his dad left and you could use the saiyans primal mind as something that goten taps into for an increase in power which he can't control. Although that was kinda done with Broly.

The Next Gen idea is a good start, because training the "next generation" to deal with threats was Goku's intention in the Boo arc. However, I think that Uub should be more active in the series because of the fact that Goku focuses most on him at the end of Z.

PLEASE come up with entirely new ideas, this doesn't mean "sons of villians" or new Saiyans emerging, I mean entirely new characters who have nothing to do with Saiyans, androids, or old generation characters at all.

And please try to keep the storytelling very Toriyama-style. Toriyama intended the series as a gag adventure/ action series, not an exclusively fighting series.
