Goku vs Naruto - Page 3

Well, if we want to talk cliches anyway, Dragonball is one of the most predictable, cliched manga/anime series I've ever read or watched, and this applies to Goku as a character possibly more than anyone else in the series. If being a part of a pattern makes things disinteresting automatically in media, I can make a pretty good argument for why all of life sucks too.

Naruto is a much better character than Goku, and in terms of development...hey, at least Kishimoto tried. Toriyama was just like "OH WLEL, LOL" and threw Luffy's predecessor at our feet.

In terms of liking the characters, I already made it pretty clear in my first post that I don't like either, personally.

I don't know, man. As far as annoying goes, Japanese Goku's voice has to be the most misfit thing since clown shoes.

we are talking about characters here not voice actor, aren't we?

Goku's character really one of the best I think

EDIT: @Majuub: Whether Goku began or ended the cliche shounen hero of that type, he's still a part of it. I don't think he started it, anyhow.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I changed my mind. I can't help but laugh at how people keep picking Goku or Naruto because the other character isn't a favorite, or annoys them, rather than looking at the actual character.

You can't say the guy who started the cliché is cliché since he started it. If no one copied him, he wouldn't be cliché. Anyways, it still stands, I dislike both. Goku because he is just too simple, Naruto because he fails at having realistic emotions and also because he fails as a character period.

Goku (and Dragon Ball in general) did start all of the "standard Shônen clichés," as seen in Naruto (the creator admited that Naruto was heavily inspired by Dragon Ball), One Piece (Oda is fucking obsessed with Dragon Ball and Akira Toriyama, as seen in their interviews together), Yu Yu Hakusho/Hunter x Hunter, etc. You can't knock Dragon Ball for being ~~awesome~~ popular.

Jackie Chan movies and a trip to China, along with Journey to the West. None of those really have the "standard Shônen clichés" that you see in every Shônen manga these days (hell, Dragon Ball was only an extremely loose adaptation of Journey to the West).
