Lol IMO that is a pretty far fetched and unfair account of Naruto's fights, although it was funny. Personally i find the fights in Naruto to be a lot more imaginative and well thought out than those of DBZ. In DBZ the battles consisted of a bunch of punches, kicks, powering up and then always finished with some kind of energy attack like a Kamehameha or if all else failed, the much overused Spirit Bomb. Naruto however has fights which are a lot more tactics based involving weapons, decoys, group tactics, illusions, monster summons and so on.

LOL, at DragonBall fans voting for Goku. He has been in about 42 volumes of DragonBall (since the beginning) and is possibly the least developed character. DB fights are generic as it comes: Enemy: I was only using 5% of my power. HAHAHA~! Hero: OH SHIT!
In no way is DB a better series than Naruto. Oh, and Naruto >>>>> Goku. |

I personally find Naruto a very fake personality, its almost as if someone was poking a gun all the time... AT HIS BALLS, forcing him to act like that. And I agree with USSJed, about every fight in Naruto is like the one he stated. So, Goku for me, as his character from kid Goku to Frieza saga was awesome.

Well i completely disagree with Finkler and USSJed, there is no way that DBZ beats Naruto when it comes to fights, comedy, seriousness, characters, fluidity, character development, etc. etc. For one, DBZ had no good comedy at all - it had a little blue guy who liked to tell corney jokes and thats about it other than a few random jokes, IMO Naruto is a little funnier - although bleach beats them both by a mile in terms of humour. As for the fights, DBZ was totally repetative with all the fighters using the same styles over and over again - punches, kicks, energy beams and mega energy beams whereas every character in Naruto has a totally different fighting method - you have a guy who uses bugs and insects to fight the enemy, a guy who creates illusions inside the enemy's head and beats them without even moving his body, you have a girl who uses tons of different weapons, and so on and so on. Character development? in DBZ? Dont make me laugh - their was virtually no character development in DBZ! In Naruto you have tons of character development, have you even watched the whole series or are you just basing your opinions on a few episodes that you have seen?

Ah i see, it was DB you were talking about when you mentioned humour and not DBZ. yeah DB was quite funny in a childs humour sort of way but as for DBZ i just never found it funny (except for a few times with vegeta). I would say DB and Naruto are pretty much equal on the humour part.

This isn't a debate about what is better between Naruto and Dragon Ball, it's about who is a better character between Naruto and Goku. Don't come and put Naruto's developpement into play, he's just a generic shonen character. He lost his parents, his father was uber strong, he was lonely and has no family and so on. It's just nothing new and so repetitive, look at Jio from 666 Satan, him and Naruto have much in common. Maybe it's because they were made by twin brothers but that's beside the point. Naruto's developpement isn't what would make him better than Goku since his developpement isn't near realistic nor touching, he has nothing to teach to anyone and he's just a typical hero. Seriously, characters in Naruto developp, but not well enough to a point where it's something you MUST aknowledge. So no, who cares how Naruto evolves or whatever, that doesn't make him more likeable or better, it just makes him more developped but not in the good way. For me, he sucks, period. Naruto and Goku are both pretty crappy heroes to their respective series, and who said the Genki-Dama is overused when it was use like 3x. Goku is the guy who started some things like the gentle, and yet naive hero who has uber power but just uses for good and everything. Naruto just follows the footsteps of Goku, it's obvious he's been heavily influenced by him. Both sucks, so don't try to make a case as to why Naruto is better than Goku, they're both crap, it's just a matter of taste. I voted ''can't decide'' since both are pretty equal in terms of shitiness.

DB Goku was much better than his Z counterpart.

Naruto. Easily. Goku is a pretty crap character, tbh. Pretty much all Dragonball characters, as far as I'm concerned, are pretty crap characters. We watch him grow up, and that's about it. His thoughts, emotions, inner workings, what makes him tick, what makes him who he is, none of it is explored outside of the context of "I want to get stronger to fight more powerful opponents!", and that to me is garbage. Goku isn't "easy to identify with" for me at all, because there's no sense of humanity to his character in his extreme simplicity, and if I can't cry for a character, I honestly don't give a crap about them. Naruto is a great character, in my opinion. I don't care about cliches like other people, and it bothers me to hear them baaaaw about it. There is nothing new under the sun. I'll empty my cup whenever I'm offered a fresh perspective. I'm concerned with how it's handled within that series.

Definitely Goku... I mean honestly Naruto has to be the first anime series I ever enjoyed where I completely hated the main character.....
I guess it doesn't help that I don't like either of Naruto's voices either. Both his english and japanese voices annoy me (Part 2 naruto is a little better though). Goku's one of those characters I don't mind, but he's not my favorite either. Definitely better than naruto though, seeing as he doesn't annoy me to no end. |
