This is confusing because Tobi could be telling the truth because alot of what he says makes alot of sense. We've already seen Itachi likes to avoid conflict if possible which is shown when he came back to Konoha and not only did he not kill Kakashi he did'nt want to start an all out war just to get Naruto. We've already seen that Itachi was having troubles with his father and we know Jiraiya had an informant and it could have been itachi who could have staged the whole Naruto capture infront of Kakuza saying he didnt want to fight Jiraiya. But on the other hand we did see Itachi grab Sasuke's eyes and we knew Itachi was going blind.
